Really is a Gilson, just rebranded 30 years ago (1987) when I bought it new. Has an 8 HP Tecumseh Snow King engine and it started on the first pull today!!! I bought it back then as I had to do an entire cul de sac each time it snowed to get to work for 22 years! It has gear drive for the wheels; I don't believe anyone makes a gear drive blower anymore. I have never had the carb apart in all the time I've owned it. It continues to give excellent service as it did this AM with our 4" snowfall. Love that old Tecumseh engine. It probably has about 500-600 hour of hard work on it.

Just gave away my 27yo Yardman 8HP Tecumseh S-K. engine still ran good though noisy and smelly (rich) as ever front housing was getting a bit floppy. Miss it!
I don't like my new 1300 buck Toro HD 826OXE. Too heavy and long and the drive levers don't cam over the spring and cable when engaged and are hard to hold down for more than 5 mins.
This is obscene engineering fault! Many Millenials don't know how to human engineer / design properly. Lost ART` in the days CAD.

I'm going to give that thing away for 800bucks, wont work with a tool thas no good IDK how much it costs, not going to live with garbage.

I wish I could get one like that. I bought a Troy-Bilt storm tracker in 2002. Put parts into it a few times now. It gets a lot of use though. Tecumseh 9.5 motor.
I have an old Simplicity from about 92 that I inherited from a friend who moved to Florida. Its a beast, 12/36, and will sit all year long and still start on a half pull with only half choke. The rust is catching up with her, but it eats everything. I used my brothers Snapper 4/22 for the 2-3 inches we got last night, and when parked face to face with the Simplicity, it could defineitly eat the Snapper.
I am running an old mid 80's Yardman Snowbird with a Tecumseh engine. It doesn't throw the snow that far but it just keeps plugging along. And I got it free.

Only problem I've had with my Tecumseh is the
low speed jet plugged up. That's with E0 gas.
Been using Stabil and it's fine now.
20+ years and no oil use. Been running synthetic oil
since new.

My Tecumseh mentioned in the opening post uses no oil either. I have used Mobil 1 5w30 in it for many years and it seems to start and run well with that oil. I generally change the spark plug every 2-3 years.
Original spark plug on the 27 YO Tecumseh 8hp snow king- It only has 200 or so hours on it. Looks new.
Spark plug for life if your mixture is OK.
Ran decent conventional or Quaker State High Mileage red bottle.. Uses no oil.
Phoney Synthetic does not make the engine last longer.

I have a 51 year old Montgomery Wards built by Gilson with a B&S motor. Starts on 2nd pull. Paid my father in-law a buck for it. Only use it on heavy snow I have a 25 year old Toro 2 cycle for the light snow. I was given the Toro the carb kept plugging up. I usually give it a little sea foam or Berryman B12 on a regular basis and it works just fine.

The one complaint that I had was that it wouldn't throw the snow very far out of the chute. I solved that by installing a rubber impeller kit that I bought on eBay, which eliminates the gap between the impeller blades and the sidewall. Now it throws snow a much greater distance.
I replaced the original carb last year, but other than that it has needed nothing but routine maintenance. I use it for the wet/heavy/deep snow, and have a small 5HP Toro that I use for lesser amounts. The Toro is much lighter and easier to maneuver.
