So I was reading and a guy on another forum who has a fleet of vehicles for work and a saturn sl2 for his personal car uses 30 weight in everything. He lived in Kansas. Why would he do that ? Why would he be against multi viscosity oil? Is there an advantage I'm not aware of in using straight weight oil. What you guys think?

ACD is a 30 weight diesel oil. And I believe ASE is a 30 weight small engine oil. They say 10w30/30 weight on the bottle but it's actually a straight 30 weight. Since it's a high quality full synthetic oil it passes for being 10w30.
And what would the advantages of using something like that vs say a regular conventional 10w30 oil
People do all sorts of things with their engines. Not a whole lot use straight 30, but it used to be common in the older days. I would not go as far as he goes but I will say that we have gotten used to thinner multi-vis oils. In some other parts of the world like Australia and NZ the same engines we use are spec'd for much thicker grades of oil and the cars don't blow up. You see the used oil analysis on here, thinner oils are used in most PCM's and they wear great and last a long time if you maintain the whole vehicle. You can use a thicker oil but why do it? You here all kinds of crazy things on the internet. Stick to what the manufacturer calls for.
My car calls for 5w30 and 10w30 I use 10w40 because it likes to use oil

my cousin has a 4.0 jeep, a 2002 i think and all my uncle runs in it is SAE 30 royal purple
Where does he live is it cold at all? Does he have any certain reason for doing so?
I use Old Spice deodorant but I still use multi-vis oils...
Me to unless there is some amazing reason I dont know about to using straight oil.and unless theres a good reason to not use oldspice I'm sticking to it too.
