So I was reading and a guy on another forum who has a fleet of vehicles for work and a saturn sl2 for his personal car uses 30 weight in everything. He lived in Kansas. Why would he do that ? Why would he be against multi viscosity oil? Is there an advantage I'm not aware of in using straight weight oil. What you guys think?

Lol I meant why would he use straight oil. Bad wording on my part. [censored] "straight oil" next there's guna be a [censored] comment I'm just not good at this talking stuff crackmeup hornets

With an SAE 30 like ACD or ASE from Amsoil I would not be concerned about it at all.

ACD is a 30 weight diesel oil. And I believe ASE is a 30 weight small engine oil. They say 10w30/30 weight on the bottle but it's actually a straight 30 weight. Since it's a high quality full synthetic oil it passes for being 10w30.

People do all sorts of things with their engines. Not a whole lot use straight 30, but it used to be common in the older days. I would not go as far as he goes but I will say that we have gotten used to thinner multi-vis oils. In some other parts of the world like Australia and NZ the same engines we use are spec'd for much thicker grades of oil and the cars don't blow up. You see the UOA's on here, thinner oils are used in most PCM's and they wear great and last a long time if you maintain the whole vehicle. You can use a thicker oil but why do it? You here all kinds of crazy things on the internet. Stick to what the manufacturer calls for.

He is probably old and probably also wears Old Spice cologne.

Me to unless there is some amazing reason I dont know about to using straight oil.and unless theres a good reason to not use oldspice I'm sticking to it too.

Or maybe he uses the straight 30 weight as deodorant, too.

Yes - ACD and ASE 10W-30/SAE30 have zero VII's so they can be called SAE30, and yet they meet SAE 10W-30 viscosity requirements so they can be called both.
