30 THINGS TO START DOING FOR OURSELVES

While I'm sure it's a quality list, I think it's only going to resonate with the Oprah contemplate your navel crowd.

To resonate here it would start with changing your own oil, rotating your own tires, hunting for your own food, reloading your own ammo, doing your own car maintenance, etc.

Less naval gazing and more doing!

Thats almost heresy. Imagine if today's kids got values like that it would knock the US back 60 yrs.
You know the time when men were real men, pansy was the name of a flower and America was the country that every other country on earth aspired to be like instead of America aspiring to be like every other third world hole.

Most of them deal with taking personal responsibility for yourself, your family, your finances and your health. If that is selfish, then we need more selfish people in the world.

Its gotten a little foggy whether we're talking about the list from the link, or javacontour's list. I HAVE to assume that the its the linked list that Crinkles was referring to, and I agree with him in that case.

If Crinckles comment was about javacontour's list, then I couldn't agree more with Pop_Rivit. If that's selfish, count me as selfish.

was referring to the original 30 things list. I realise you gotta look after yourself, but in some ways "me me me" can go too far.

I agree. I'm starting to think if America was knocked back 60s in terms of culture, especially amongst today's youth, it might not be a bad thing.

Well said. I actually do not see any of those recommendations as being selfish. I see them as dealing with reality and helping out one another. In order to help others, you must first help yourself.

Depending on the character of the person, the first list can become very selfish.

Items such as the first one, spending time with "The Right People."

Doesn't seem to suggest you spend time with folks who challenge you. Instead, spend time with folks who tell/show you they love you. Sure it says they encourage you to improve in healthy ways. But I wonder how many "me first" folks will even read that far.

I don't think they are particularly bad suggestions. It just doesn't seem this would be the right audience.

But I can see how someone could twist that list in a very selfish fashion.
