Hoping to get some advice, I was looking at OfferUp and a person is selling Firestone Destination LE 2 $400 for the set. The mfg code is (17-22) is that too old. They are brand new. Any advice will be appreciated. I will be putting them on my wife’s explorer.

No, not too old. But I would definitely use this as a negotiating point. If your wife doesn't put a lot of miles on her Explorer, it is possible that since the tires are about to celebrate their 3rd birthday, that their age could mean that the tires will be too old before they wear out. Sell this point, to negotiate.

If you'll use them up over the next four or five years you should be fine.
You give your location as CA, but that does cover a wide range of climates.
Tires generally last longer in years in cooler climates, of which CA certainly has some.
