Just wondering if anyone knew about a paper cone filter instead of using a generic washable media cone. I cant imagine there is an OEM application that would slip on and clamp down though.

Whoops, I put it in the wrong forum.

Something universal for aftermarket intakes, not for a specific car.

there is a lot of information on this sort of stuff, please search the archives...

In a nutshell, many of these "cold air intakes" and cone filters designed to improve perfomance actually degrade it due to poor implementation. Many of the reusable filters sacrifice filtration efficacy for higher flow, and sometimes the results show in terms of UOA results, etc. Its probably not possible to correlate engine life to such a thing though...

Yes I know all about the cotton media being worse than paper, hence why I asked about a paper version to use with less worry. I'd probably still throw a wrap over it but I'd know it was doing a better job as a filter, if such a thing existed.

There was a good comparison test of various filter media here in July of 2004. It was a big cylindrical filter for some late model GM truck.

It included filtration efficiency, restriction and dirt capacity before enough restriction developed to cause replacement.

It would be worth your while to search for it. Took me less than a minute to find it.

IIRC, all paper filters did very well, a couple of them were really good.

Nothing came up on a search so I thought I would ask if anyone had a part number to look at.

Look at the air filter for the acura integra. Not exactly a cone filter, but it is a cyllindircal filter of good quality that merely slides onto the air intake tube.

It sits in a box to ensure cold air and being out of the elements, but it is a round, paper/cotton filter that slips on.
