3.1 Modem Reliability

Researching 3.1 Modems ($200 max) leads me to MANY complaints of Arris products overheating, dropping signal, and other malfunctions. Customer service is questionable as well. Can anyone suggest a brand they own and use that has proven reliable? I've had Motorola, then Arris, for longer than I can remember, and they've all worked properly. My internet speed was recently upgraded, and the trusty Arris 3.0 modem is a bottleneck. I'm all ears...

just have to find one with the right chipset. avoid intel? (or maybe that is out of date)

High split is coming you will want docsis 3.1 or later.

You dont tell us what provider so its hard to recommend a modem.

It's a small provider called VYVE, not that it should matter. They serve Oklahoma and northern Texas, especially rural areas. They're pretty much the only choice where I live. I KNOW I want 3.1, which is why I'm asking the question!

The question is reliability, not who the provider is, as it's irrelevant.

Just got an Arris G34 $175 on Amazon it is 4 times faster than my old Arris. Had it for 4 weeks now it seems very stable. But I had to put an app on my phone to install it.

I have a Night Hawk CM2000 2.5 Gbps and had it for a could of years with ZERO issues, no drop outs or anything. Rock solid. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. The CM 2500 is a 1Gbps modem.

The 2500 looks fabulous, but is beyond my price range. Thank you, though.

Our Arris SB8200 has been rock solid. The Arris S33 I purchased before that was nothing but trouble and was returned. What download speeds are you paying for?
Recently bumped from 300 to 600 for free. Aside from simply wanting to upgrade the old 3.0 is limited @ 300-400. I'm an old fart, not a gamer, but I want all I can get from the upgrade and to future-proof a bit.

I ordered the SB8200, which is the first one I researched. It seems hit-or-miss, as it runs very hot, but I'll give it a shot. Thank you and all who responded. Fingers crossed...

Don’t believe everything you read would be my first piece of advice. Any widely used device will have people with complaints if you look for it.
People love to knock Arris after all it’s the most popular brand out there. They are reliable.

With that said your Internet provider should have a list of recommended modems. Why this is to your benefit is they will push updates to it.

If you choose something other than what they recommend that will not happen and very possible if you ever need troubleshooting online that may not happen either

that is an older model and not high split compatible (if that is coming soon for you)

I would get a high split compatible modem (also supports mid-split)
Maybe one of these:
Vyve Broadband is a very scuzzy operator that is typically at least one generation of equipment behind… the perks of them being the only choice for most of their customers. If I remember correctly, they didn’t have DOCSIS 3.1 going until pretty recently… and it’s definitely not mid or high split.

The SB8200 will probably serve OP just fine for several years, until one of the bigger companies starts sending their midsplit gear to surplus for companies like Vyve to buy for pennies on the dollar.
