Hi! Second oil analysis here for my engine (1st one here). Let's see what you think. Things to bear in mind:

- Previous oil used was meguin s.l 0w40 which i did not analize, that was the previous one. This might pump up the 100c viscosity a bit since i have an oil cooler which holds a bit of oil even after a change.
- 1200 km are highway use (journey to the track), 380km are track time (90 laps, 8h open pit lane). Counting the hot laps there's an estimated time of 2h of full throttle squeezing every gear to redline (8250rpm). That's obviously not counting aborted laps due to traffic, yellow flags, and other random events.
- I had to refill 0.5l of oil mid track day, did not refill any more before taking the sample (i continued using this oil for a bit).
- It's the 14th trackday for this engine (atm on 16th).
- 150.000 km total

Your test results include the VI index which is interesting. Most of the one's I see don't include that..that's all. Have fun on the track! Thanks for sharing you MR2 UOA

What are the specs of that motor? (size, hp,tq and what was done to it) Sounds nice.

it's a 1.8l with variable valve timing in the intake cam, and variable lift in both cams, similar to vtec. from 6000 to 8250rpm the engine sounds totally different and produces it's peak power and torque. 192cv at 7800 rpm and 180nm at 6800 lol.

the internals are totally stock and the engine hasn't been rebuilt. it's got a lightweight flywheel, ramair intake and custom 2.5' exhaust with just one straight through muffler (no cat).

That SHell starts thin. It has high HTHS, which is what matters, but KV100 in VOA is only 12.79, just barely into 40 grade.
Is this one you used? If so, I would stick to it:

Yeah, starts thin but didn’t fall off much.
That’s the one, the api sp version. I’ll probably keep using it along with others Porsche a40 oils.
At the moment I’m testing something different though, Rowe super leichtlauf 10w40, will have an UOA when I remove it.

That is my point. There is not much shearing. It is hard to find something better than that oil off the shelf.
Do you know what is your oil temperature during hotlap?

Yeah… about that we’re still without oil temp sensor 😅😅
I just didn’t bother with it considering the result of previous analysis, but it would be nice for the sake of knowing

On the report it says Oil Fill: 7L. Stock oil fill on the 2ZZ is 4.6L. are you running a larger/baffled oil pan? Do you overfill?
Love the video and the engine sound in lift with the modified exhaust. Did you have the exhaust custom made or is it off the shelf?

Yeah. What kind of oil cooling does it have?
Well now that I remember last trackday I connected the obd to the phone to check coolant temps while hotlapping. It ranged from 87 to 94c, and since I have an oil to coolant cooler on a sandwich on the oil filter, the oil temp might not be too far off. I’m aware it’s not something to trust but it’s all the info I can get. Apart from that, I also have a 16 row air to oil cooler installed on the side scoop of the car and a big baffled aluminum sump, bumping total oil capacity to 6.5 liters.

Thanks! I also love the sound.
It’s actually 6.5l but the guy who sent the oil to analysis for me got that wrong.
Bigger baffled sump + 16 row oil cooler is the cause, I don’t overfill.
Exhaust is custom made, headers are stock 2zz celica ones but modified a bit to fit on the mr2, the rest of the exhaust is custom, just a single 2.5’ pipe with cheap STC straight through muffler (85€).

This was when it was new, now it’s a bit noisier hahah

Yeah, I don't think the oil temperature is an issue there.
