Hello, I am hoping that someone can chime in on this Mercedes-Benz rated 227.1 synthetic oil.

I have five qts that are 0w20 that I would like to use. Is this 227.1 specific to particular engines only.

It would be going into a new 2024 Toyota RAV4 hybrid. I know it's spec for 0w16, but I'm more concerned about the additive 227.1.

Oh OK, I see. No problems. 229.71 is more stringent than anything Toyota uses. Use with confidence.

And yes the Mobil 1 esp x2 would be the equivalent to the Mercedes oil with the 229.71 spec.

You have no problem with using that Mercedes-Benz branded oil in your Toyota

You’re fine to use the oil, but on a brand new vehicle, let alone one changed at reasonable intervals, will not have any need for “carbon buildup reduction”. Just floor it when you’re on on-ramps, that’s all your vehicle will need for carbon buildup reduction

New Castrol Edge quart bottles too.

My old formula / old label 5w20 still has 229.71 on it. Not seeing the 229.71 on the new label / new formula 5w20 @ Wally's.

The new formula / new label Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 5w20 no longer carries the 229.71 on the back of the jug. My old one still has it.

I was under the impression the 229.71 Castrols only had the 229.71 mention on the EPs.
That's good to know, if they share it with the black label now. They should share, being black label now shows the oil is good to 20k

I believe for the past 3 years it has carried the 229.71 (the gold bottle)
