Friend of mine is getting a custom made aluminum hull built with twin 225 Tohatsus(made by and identical to a Honda). The oil, filter, and foot oil will be serviced every 100 hours. It calls for a 10W30 FC-W rated oil, Honda 10W30 is $25 per gallon, and Tohatsu 10W30 is $24.90 a gallon, made by Liqui Moly so it seems to be a good oil. My friend was wondering if I could find any FC-W rated oil for cheaper, I found Sierra FC-W 10W30 online for $19 a gallon but the price of shipping isnt worth it. He does not want to skimp on protection but also does not want to pay high $$ if another oil of equivalent spec can be had for cheaper. Any oils out there cheaper than the OEM oils?

The oil filter for the Honda is a 15400-PLM-A01PE, the Tohatsu is an HPLM-15400-A01PE,obviously the same filter just with tohatsu and honda badging. My question is, should there be any warranty concerns if the Honda badged filter is used on the Tohatsu instead of the Tohatsu filter? He plans on going with the Honda filter as its $6 filter. It all adds up in savings as this boat will be expensive to operate.

Lastly, for foot (lower unit) it calls for an SAE 90 hypoid gear oil. Would it best to go with the OEM Honda/Tohatsu gear oil?

use a marine gear oil and a name brand FC-W 10w30

that gear is way to expensive to save $40 a year
