Took a quick look at what oil Mobil 1 recommends for a 22 Bronco Sport 1.5l and they recommend the 5W-20 Extended Performance

Will have 33k on it next oil change, would the ESP be a better oil due to it being a hard working ecoboost 3 cylinder turbo??

Would the 0W-20 ESP be appropriate??

With that 1.5L 3-banger engine the frequency of oil changes will be much more important than the performance level of the oil. All due to the oil pump belt that swims in oil. (Although many call it the timing belt. Which it is, just not in the sense that most of us are used to, because technically this engine has both timing belt and timing chain.)

Avoid extended OCIs. Keep oil clean with shorter than recommended OCIs. Or heavily contaminated oil will destroy that belt and kill an engine faster than one can say "oxidation". And since OCIs better stay short - the need for expensive oil falls off. So use anything that makes your wallet happy and doesn't give you sleepless nights.

you know what will be said here, Mobil 1 ESP, will of course be recommended, personally I would go to Walmart and pick out any 5w-30 synthetic like API, SQ ,GF-7 rated oil like Valvoline Extended Protection or Castrol EDGE Extended Performance etc ,. and change out around 5k with a Fram ultra filter. do you have a euro engine in your vehicle ??, if so ESP maybe a better choice.

I have a 2021 Ford Escape with (I believe) the same engine.
What does your OLM show you?
I change the oil every ten months.
3,500 miles .... OLM @ 15%
I had the oil analyzed and the fuel dilution was 2.4%

I use Mobil 1 ... 10,000-mile oil / 5w-20.

I believe with these small engines, the best thing you can do is change the motor oil & filter.
This Summer, I'll have 20,000 miles on it and will drain & fill the transmission.

I'm just trying to be proactive and maybe stack the deck in my favor.
I do the work myself, so only pay for materials.

I absolutely agree with what is mentioned above regarding OCI frequency with this engine.

My Fiesta ST has the same engine, and I change its oil every 6 months on the dot, even though it only gets driven occasionally. This is to protect the oil pump belt.

Additionally, I drained the FF very early (around 800km) and filled with 5W-30. I’ve used 5W-30 ever since and the engine is significantly quieter on 5W-30 compared to 5W-20. I also look after several Fiesta STs and Focuses with this engine and they all respond the same way to a 5W-30, ie they run significantly quieter. So I never run 5W-20s in any of them now.

With my Fiesta ST, I first used Castrol Magnatec DX 5W-30 (API SP/GF-6A/D1G3) and had no issues, but when Valvoline Restore and Protect came out I started using that and never looked back. These engines love Valvoline Restore and Protect in 5W-30 flavour.

I’ve been wondering about engine noise & have been told it’s normal

The dealership has been using motorcraft full synthetic 5W-20

What makes Valvoline restore and protect the oil of choice for this little hard working engine

Most of the EB's are just noisy as all getout from the HP fuel pump, injectors, and valvetrain. Plus Ford tends to delete a lot of the sound damping over the years.

Had a 19 Raptor & only had it 56k miles and never noticed much engine noise. Traded it in with minor hail damage, 4 bald tires, sagging bed, shocks needing rebuild & cracked windshield and got 5k more than we paid for it 🤣🤣

Had it serviced at the dealership every time it told us oil change coming up (dealer services were free)

My 2.3 EB sounds like a little tractor but does run quieter on Quaker State Ultimate Protection.

Yea, my 2.3 in the Ranger, as I would be coasting through the neighborhood I could always hear the spot where the injectors shut off. Could never hear it over about 20-30 mph though.

Never really bothered me..it was a truck after all, not a limo.

Never really pay attention to the 3.5. It is quieter all around, but most of the time the ICE isn't running anyways.

Thank goodness Ford redesigned that engine. Gone is the old 1.5 Ecoboost Dragon. It has been replaced by the new 1.5 Ecoboost MPC engine.

People here often recommend Mobil 1 ESP oil not because it's a some sort of unicorn golden oil, but because it's designed and preferred for turbocharged engines, regardless of if your car is EU, JP or US made.

However, I would recommend ESP 0W-30 or 5W-30 vs 0W-20.

People also recommend the ESP oil because of this:

The 1.5 Dragon EcoBoost and the 1.5 MPC are nearly identical. The Dragon was the basis for the MPC family. The 1.5 MPC also still has an oil pump belt, but the 2.0 and 2.3 MPC do not have any wet belts.

I think a lot of the noise comes from the balance shaft which is gear driven on the 1.5 Dragon EcoBoost. The slightly thicker oil quiets it down a fair bit.

Valvoline Restore and Protect is perfect for this engine as it will keep things as clean as possible. Good for the piston rings, turbo, VVT system, cylinder deactivation system etc.

That's fine with me. My 2.7 has a belt driven oil pump too. Many new vehicles use this technology. With proper oil and 5,000 mile oil changes, the belts will last 100,000 miles or 10 years.

Have the same engine in my 22 escape, oil is changed at the dealer(too hard to get under to change myself). They've switched to over to 5w30. Said they feel it gives better protection. Gets changed every 5k.

and then what? I do 100 000 miles in five years or so, curious the cost of the job to replace it? never had an engine with belt driven oil pump. The idea scares me :ROFLMAO:

They last around 150,000mi or 10 years (whichever comes first). It’s not a huge deal to replace it, although the sump and timing chain has to come off which I guess is not that convenient.
