2103 Ford Fiesta Transmission Problems

When these Fiestas with the DCT first came out, I was a Master Ford Salesman. Which means I was just really ontop of my training.

But anyways we had Fiestas come off the truck brand new from the factory that would not move. The transmission would not go into any gear. We had to push them into the service department.

Ford would go out of business if you forced them to only sell vehicles with manual transmissions.

If the governments were not pushing so hard for emissions and mileage standards, we would not have all these trans issues. Look at all the solid 4 speed traditional automatic transmissions out there from days gone by. Sure the new 6, 7, 8, 9 speeds can offer up to 10 percent or a tad more fuel economy, but they do so at the expense of reliability and durability.

I have 114k on my 2011 Fiesta and knock on wood, no transmission problems during the time I've had it. While I had the car in being serviced last summer, they 'flashed' the transmission software which made the transmission upshift quicker under light acceleration which actually improved my mileage in city driving. During all of this I spoke with the technician about the issues that we're discussing here and was told that people need to get their transmission software flashed and drive their cars harder. Perhaps they've found a solution, I know that I've been quite trouble free and enjoy driving my car.

Modern 6/7/8/9-speed regular automatic transmissions are just fine in terms of reliability.

The ones we're talking about with the issues are DCT's, not regular automatics.

Back in the good ole days Ford had a lot of problem with their 4 speed auto too, so there goes your emission vs reliability issue.

As far as I can tell it is when people expect a car to last 200k vs the "who drives their car for more than 100k" mentality that did these companies in, forcing them to start focusing on reliability again.

I do love when people put words in my mouth. I said look at "all the solid 4 speed traditional automatic transmissions" not that "all the 4 speeds were solid". Even the most uneducated car guy knows better than to use a blanket statement like that.

Yes the torque converter billion speed autos are still relatively reliable, especially in regards to the other auto technologies...but we also cannot easily check them, service them, or top them off...leading some that would continue to go down the road to go up in smoke. Non serviceable filters(some) and lack of dipsticks combined with rube goldberg like procedures for refilling properly is a significant step backwards in my opinion despite the lame excuses offered for it by the manufacturers.

Yeah, it should be gone soon....

I don't know I'd put the blame solely on Ford. Getrag has exited the dry clutch DCT business so I just wonder if the whole thing is not ready for prime time. Seems that most with dry clutch DCT's have issues.

Ford messed this up from day one....they had issues before they even left the Wayne plant!!

Actually I would bet that many customers would have gladly accepted a replacement of the DCT with the manual unit, if Ford would have offered it, even here in the USA.

The car with the manual is simply excellent! It is amazing what that one change does to the Focus, and Fiesta.

Actually Ford wouldn't because around the world the MAJORITY of Focus and Fiesta models are sold with the excellent manual transaxle .
