20w50 in tranny ?

Most Harley's don't share fluids and the ones that do don't share engine oil.
My 08 street bob has 3 holes therefore 3 different fluids.
I use shockproof heavy in the transmission,rotella conventional in the primary and rotella in the engine.

I always used either Amsoil or Mobil 1 20w50 in the transmission of my 2008 Heritage Softail with no issues. Worked well and nothing on the magnet.

I used it too prior to shockproof however that bang going into first was painful. Ever since adding shockproof to my transmission that first gear bang is pretty much gone.

Rule of thumb is that the larger/cruiser bikes have separate sumps while the more compact/sleeker sport bikes share a sump between engine and transmission. There are exceptions to this rule, I'm sure, but that's a good rule-of-thumb to know.

Actually non unit construction is the rare thing nowadays. Harley's are the aberration more often than not. Most large metric cruisers are indeed shared sump. Triumph, Victory, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Indian all use shared sump unit construction in their designs.

One of my bikes (97 Sportster) only has two fill holes. Amsoil 20w-50 been used in both for a few years now.

Yes. Every sportster I've ever seen has a shared transmission and primary and separate engine oil.
The Harley big twins have separate primary,transmission and engine oil.
