2027 Toyota Highlander EV

RAV4 was ruined well over a decade ago. Toyota needs to start coming up with new vehicle names instead of reusing and tarnishing the reputation of previous nameplates.

Huh? Toyota sold almost half a million RAV4s in the US in 2025, and I suspect owner satisfaction is VERY high. And if you want a quick one, the RAV4 Prime is the fastest vehicle they sell, if you exclude the BMW-based Supra.

Go look at the prior generation Rav4s, especially the 1st and 2nd gen, or even the 3rd gen with it's optional V6, then compare it to the generic crossover grocery getter Rav4s of today.

Same name. Completely different vehicles.

If you ask me old rav4s look pretty ugly lol. But if you mean they get bigger each gen, that's normal, literally every company is doing that.

They were pretty tight in that engine compartment anyway. The front of the engine was right up on the passenger 'frame' rail.

What's a hot little number like this go for?

Supposedly there will be two trim levels: XSE and the Limited.

I believe the XSE will start around mid-$50k.

I believe this is a NEW EV only release. There are comments in the media or Toyota themselves, it was designed from the ground up as an EV. Toyota has still more to release on the vehicle but I am almost 100% certain of this.

They stretched the Highlander wheelbase so the EV will be more like the Grand Highlander, i.e., four inches longer and roughly two inches wider.

They can keep the white interior!

Yeah, I’m having trouble finding it and I most likely read it wrong. I thought I read from the ground up that this EV was being built, but I think you’re correct. I can’t find anything about from the ground up so it’s probably just modified like you say.

I guess I’m just getting old or something, but I can’t see the excitement of a three row SUV that they’re guessing is gonna be priced $55-$80,000. I mean really?

Right?

I had a sienna hybrid loaner last year. It was incredible what they got out of that powertrain. Toyota may be working up a sneak attack for EV with their decades of hybrid experience. But even the hybrid sienna …. Not cheap.

I still see a decent amount of 3rd gens on the road and always check for the V6 badge in the front grille. Pretty common to see.
That may be true for your area but traditionally, the larger engine choice on mainstream vehicles tends to have a very low take rate (<20%).

Yep, and the 4 bangers are just as fast as the 6 bangers in traffic. And save at the fuel pump...
Seems like the Honda 4's ran forever...

As a 2019 RAV4 hybrid owner, I would not have considered a 2018 or older RAV4.
Can't do ugly.

Mostly due to fuel efficiency, and reluctance to pay for the upgrade.

Interestingly, the 4 cylinder of this era wasn't really fuel efficient. The 2GR equipped Rav4 was actually only around 2 MPG worse than the Rav4 with the 4 banger. It was a no brainer decision to pony up for the 2GR in this generation Rav4.

I suspect canceling the V6 was more to do with going mass market with each generation, and Toyota's desire to shift Rav4 target demographic from the earlier Rav4's. Again, they are completely different vehicles from what they were originally. And of course forcing the upsell to either Highlander or RX350 if you wanted the bigger, smoother, better engine.
