Don't think Pentius is a PGI filter per my searching, and it's not shown as a brand under the PGI umbrella.

It's not, but their construction is almost identical.
Here's a video posted by Crazy Bill's Garage cutting open the Pentius PLXL7317, which is the Honda part number. At ~8:45 he shows the center piece with the media and bypass valve. He said it's going on his top 10 filters in 2025 list and is a filter he'd put on his shelf.

Yes it is ... and most of the filters these days built in Asia all look very similar in construction, and that leads to confusion thinking they are all built by PGI. Post 17 included Pentius in the PGI made filter line, and I'm just pointing out that it's not a PGI filter.
Micro guard "select" from oreilly is a nice filter
The new mobil 1 filters made in vietnam/Malaysia are very stout(what im running after using leaky wix's for the last years)

Rock Auto is showing this Premium Guard PG4612EX as a "Various MGF." for $5 each before their shipping hit. Has anyone tried these and are they in fact the PG?

yes those are PG , they come under their own name or Pronto or Parts Plus but that is the shorter version of a 7317 size.... If you want the PG taller extended version go with Carquest Premium 84356, Oreilly MSL 57365 , Autozone STP S7317XL or Napa Gold 7356.

I was thinking about the drain valve but there is a wall thickness at the thread so less oil is draining theoretically. Also where does the thread end, past the pan thread, at the end, or inside the pan thread? Maybe with car on a tilt it’s much less. If the plug is straight down of course it doesn’t matter.
A good magnetic drain plug can't hurt, and they do catch quite a bit of ferrous debris (especially in the early break-in part of an engine's life) that the oil filter can't catch. Also a good way to monitor if anything is wearing abnormally in the engine.
I use MicroGard Select Extended Life myself but feel Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filters are a bit more robust.

The MicroGard Selects are built pretty stout, and are more efficient than the Mobil 1. If going to run over a 10K OCI, then the Mobi1 1 filter is rated for up to 20K miles, but who runs that long of an OCI and I wouldn't run it up to 20K anyway because filter efficiency decreases with loading.
I wish I'd started with one on the first OCI, but installed on the last oil change. I went with this Votex off Amazon, but also looked at the Gold Plug. Went with the Votex because it's made in Wisconsin, same state three of our grandchildren were "made" (our daughter and her husband live there).
Get a bag of crush washers and change them every time the plug is removed.
