2025 LSY oil consumption

It is OK. as long as you check and top off as needed. You may get lucky and see useage drop after you put more miles on it (breaking it in now).

I would get it checked out, I think GM's acceptable amount of oil consumption is 1qt per 2000 miles. The engine might still be breaking-in and oil consumption will reduce with time. But I would at least get the dealer to perform an oil consumption test to verify but they might not wanna do it if the vehicle doesn't have a lot of miles on it yet.

I'd go to the dealer and have an oil consumption test done. I think 1 quart per 2000 is the limit.

This has been inactive since May, but I would be interested in an update. I bought a 2024 Envision a year ago and in the first 1500 miles it used 1 Qt or liter. The dealer does not seem to know what the dipstick reads. I took it to the dealer and the service writer started talking like a lawyer, not something you normally hear from those types at the dealer. I started poking around and found that GM just agreed to fix engine problems associated with the 6.2L V-8 (L87 code). If the engine is not already damaged, the fix is to move from 0W-20 oil to 0W-40 oil. This is expected to cost GM over a billion dollars, so it is not surprising that service writers at the dealership have had seminars from lawyers on how to talk about oil problems with their engine.

The L87 engine had a surface finish problem between the crank and main bearing exacerbated by low viscosity oil. I am not sure that is the problem with the Envision's LSY engine. This car is made in China and as far as I can tell the engine is also made there. The LSY was also made in the US at Springhill, Tennesee mostly for the Cadillac brand. GMC and Buick are supposed to be a cut above Chevrolet so they were granted permission to use the Cadillac LSY engine too. To meet EPA mileage requirements the oil viscosity has continued to be reduced. The interesting thing is that I found an english version of the Envision sold in Asia with the LSY engine and it lists 5W-20 for the recommended oil. I mentioned this to the dealer and asked if they could use that for an oil change. They would not even look up if that is true in Asia. The car continues to use oil at a high rate, I am thinking maybe the thin oil seeps by the turbo bearings. This turbo runs constantly to eliminate turbo lag. The manual says that the engine should not use more than 1 quart / 2500 miles. That seems high and my car did use a quart in 1500 miles. The dealer says that does not count because I was not on an "official" oil watch. Now I am on an "official" watch, with the dealer doing dipstick reads every thousand miles.
