2025 Equinox rental review!

I don't like GM's (older) spring-loaded switch that makes you bump it EVERY time. Both my wife's '08 F150 and my '19 Wrangler allow you to STAY in an OFF or AUTO position until you move it again.

So, shut it down, then turn key on again to pull codes and everything starts over

During some years GM really wanted you on AUTO 100% of the time

yeah that's what my (49% GM) MG has. I don't mind it as I see far too many people driving around at night with just front drl on and I normally don't need to turn them off.
 
Exactly! My F-150 has an 8" display and it's perfectly adequate. Our VW Tiguan also has it blended into the dash.
Actually, as usual, designers are less than smart. Them, along with the beancounters. They try to find modernism where there's none, and have zero courage to explore and build on what they have themselves created.

- Slam screens everywhere, to save money. Take all buttons away. Check

- Sell this as progress. Check.

- Make clients so angry that some companies would make official statements that they are not abandoning buttons. Check.

- Clumsily go back to half-backed buttons. Check.

Here's how me myself and I would do it:

- Make specific sections of the screen with a magnetic or metal background. Sell amazing, beautiful, tactile-exhilarating and EXPENSIVE magnetic rotary knobs. Picture a Nest thermostat. Can be semi-transparent or fully transparent. Have those knobs pair wit the car. Encoded pls, not simple Bluetooth.

Code the infotainment so it knows a knobs has been clipped on it, and change the image on the section where the knobs is to match the knobs. Round for example.

Allow for different types or whole clusters of knobs to be added.

Standardize this throughout the whole range.

Want just a small knobs for the volume? Sold. Want a full cluster of knobs for volume and HVAC ? SOLD.

Make money, make users happy.

Those who don't remember the craze of Nokia cellphones' interchangeable faceplates won't understand me. That was an industry in its own right. And that was simple plastic which was soon copied whereas those knobs can be proprietary.
 
I'm totally with you on the LYX 1.5T. I can't say enough good things about my 2021 Equinox LT AWD. I have zero complaints for what it is. Power wise, it not bad at all and I love the 6AT. All fluid maintenance is so easy on it, including the AWD fluids. The chassis and AWD system is basically identical on the 2025+
I have a 2021 AWD with 120,000 miles. I do all the fluids myself also...it's so easy. The vehicle has been 100% reliable with zero problems so far. It's only been back to the dealership for scheduled maintenance. I will probably buy another Equinox next year some time.
 
Helped my SIL with a recent new purchase. She had a 21 Buick Enclave that she decided was too big and it was time to downsize. We looked at the Equinox but ended up going with the Buick twin (Envision). It is soooo much nicer than the Chevy both under the hood and the interior appointments and it really didn't cost that much more. It has the 2.0L (+/- 220 HP) that should be in the Chevy or at least offered as an option. But to be honest I was trying to get her into a CRV but the only dealer was 90 miles away (she's in western Kansas and you're lucky if a town has a chevy or a ford dealer). We found out that the Chevy dealer 25 miles away will perform any needed warranty work on the Buick. She can also go to a GMC dealer 35 miles away if she wants. The Buick dealer was 90 miles away so closer service options made it a viable option. I've been a die hard Mazda guy for the last 20 years or so and I'll admit that the Buick is a quiet comfortable cruiser that's good looking as well. We'll see if it holds up as well as the Enclave did (no issues whatsoever in 75K miles).

Buick is transitioning to all EV by 2030. Many dealers have opted not to invest in the infrastructure and training needed to be a Buick dealer. What a sorry state of affairs. The same goes for Cadillac.

The same thing happened at our local GM dealership. The carried Chevy, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac. It's now only GMC and Chevy. They are a high volume dealer.
 
It's a shame because the Buick is a really nice vehicle. Their SUV's are significantly nicer than the Chevy and GMC equivalents in my opinion. They are not the vehicles of yesteryear and do not ride or handle like big boats like they once did. Initially I thought my SIL was crazy getting the Enclave years ago, but it grew on me the more I drove it. It didn't have the handling or spirit of my Mazdas but that thing was a heck of a road trip vehicle. The longer the trip the nicer it was. Kind of a point it and go type of vehicle. It was amazing what the rear end could swallow seats up or down. The v6 had more than adequate passing power and it got 25 mpg on trips with 4 to 6 people on board. I'm looking forward to taking the Envision on a road trip to see how it matches up (yea kind of apples and oranges but it could be interesting). Going full electric could be Buicks demise based on the current desire for EV's. It's sad how American manufacturers are killing off vehicles. I'm growing tired of the SUV craze (even though I currently have two) and I'm now looking for a nice sedan to enjoy driving in my twilight years!!

The Equinox, yes, the Envision no. The equinox is adequate for around town trips. You would have to give yourself a lot of room if you wanted to pass on 2 laners. Our test drive of the equinox was fine in town but it seemed kind of pookie merging into traffic.

While Western Kansas is probably not the best use case for an EV, reading the comments about the 1.5 in the Equinox not having enough power makes me snicker. You'd have a very difficult time convincing me to go back to a slow and noisy ICE vehicle, or even a hybrid. Owning an EV changes how you drive. I never think I don't have enough power to do something that's within an acceptable safety margin. When you have something that does 0-60 in the 4s there's never a time you think that it isn't breathtakingly fast. I can't imagine what like @JeffKeryk M3P feels like, or other vehicles that are in the 3s or even 2s.

If Buick wants to go all-EV like Cadillac seems to be doing, they'll certainly have my support. I can't afford most Cadillacs but maybe Buick will strike a nice middle ground between Chevy and Cadillac.
 
The local GMC Buick dealership was around for as long as I can remember. Then it became GMC. Now it is a new Tesla store.
Oh yeah, the Acura dealership where I used to shop is now Porsche...
 
The closest to me BMW dealership is now a church
I hope the crew is unchanged and they are now all atoning for their sins ?

Are the sales and parts dept alternating self-flagellation, or are they going together ?

Were the techs absolved yet ???

Blast, that's a nail biter if I've seen one...
