Looks like a nice truck (whatever that means)
Seriously, I'm with you regarding basic vehicles. What's offered, and apparently desired by many, is completely unnecessary.
Assuming there are no 'bad engines' in Toyota's lineup, I'd skip the V8 as well.

I could skip the river breather, and slap a carplay bluetooth screen on top of the dash and i'm good.

They aren’t exactly cheap in the countries they are available in. The truck starts at $51,500 USD in S. Africa. I love the idea of getting one and was impressed with them in South Africa and Botswana when I was there on safari.

That thing reminds me of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. People will buy them (a few people) just to have it as a toy, but it wouldn't make a dent in regular pickup truck sales.

it is based off their new truck platform. Dont remember what it is called, but it is a universal platform. I think the base is 10kUSD. might be wrong.

You will never see cheap pickups here unless people stop buying enough luxury pickups for the automakers to make profits. C19 shifted the balance of power to the manufacturers and now consumers have just eaten up anything handed to them.

The link goes to a Landcrusier pickup with a 4.5V8 when I click it, not the cheap Toyota truck.

With the proper accessories it would make a cool NSTV.

As I get older I suspect I do not wish for plain-jane anymore. Not ready for luxury but eh. Maybe if I had a farm or a job that tore up the vehicle, then it'd make sense. But I'm not to where I could have a daily and a toy for the weekend--truck like this might be fine for the weekend. But then my expenses are pretty high.

[But I'm not a typical case, my commute is an hour each way. Everyone has different needs--and wants. And I've never needed to ford a stream nor drive far off pavement.]

But so much "above" is pretty old-school. Look at the climate controls (it does have AC !), the radio, instrument cluster, and even the door handles. Looks like the inside door handles that a '97 Corolla has.

I never got to ride in one in Australia, but that's pretty much all they sell, Hilux type trucks for light duty stuff and the Landcruiser for heavier hauling and towing. Now what I did see is a few people driving long distances in the Landcruiser's with ear buds in, so that might give you a clue how noisy they could be on a long trip on a rougher road...

I'm sure this was near $100k US to get equipped like this, but it might be 10 years old too? You can see it does it all, with the big towing flap on the back too. I'm sure a living room size north american truck is better to go down a smooth highway, or tow your house around, but if you want to get off pavement, then this works really well! Almost all the camper trailers were equipped with the same rims and tires as the tow vehicle too.

I wish you could find a plain jane truck like this in the USA, for a cheap price. Nut here in the USA, it would be TRD with the nice wheels and sound system, lifted and 30k more than what it should be.

this is not a sales pitch as i was unformed this post broke a rule of some kind.

I've long said I'd buy a 70 series Landcruiser, if I could buy one here. Yes, I can buy a 25+ year old Landcruiser from another country, but I would want it to be left hand drive, and either a 76 series wagon, or Troop Carrier. I've driven an imported 25+ year old Troop Carrier with right hand drive, and I didn't care for it on our roads.

So, for clarification, it seems that I broke a rule, which merited a warning from an admin on this thread, for not being descriptive enough on the original title of this thread, so "2024 Land Cruiser" was added to the title.

It was not my intention to mislead or fish any person on this site for any reason and have no affiliation with the seller of the link. Truth is, I could no screenshot the listing for whatever reason.

Just figured it might be a good topic to discuss and perhaps push car manufacturers to make some simple plain jane cars and trucks for people who do want or need all the bells and whistles.

BITOG seems to be a pretty respected site on the internet, and if the car manufactures don't look at this site for guidance, they are in error.

I for one would love the above listed truck.

Anyway, wanted to clarify the post and thread to all that have participated, thanks.
