I took my 2018 Tacoma in to the body shop to have another deer strike repaired and picked up a rental 2024 jeep compass limited with just under 5 k miles on it.

So the good so far, remote start and Ac is strong. Seats are comfortable.

The bad, driving it.

The transmission shudders and the turbo lag stall feel is apparent to my wife as a passenger. It is not very pleasurable or predictable to drive.
This model has adaptive cruise control and seems to work but is not as intuitive to verify it is set properly. No brake hold.

I was going to drive it for my commutes this week but my wife and I decided it is to unpredictable to rely on in heavy interstate traffic, she will use it to take the dog to the park during the week. I will drive the Corolla cross hybrid as usual for the commute. To bad , I like the style cues of the jeep, the interfaces are decent but it is not a good driver and hesitates too much.

That is all I have to say about this rental car. sometime in the next year I need to get new tires for the taco and go through The suspension, new ball joints and bushings as well as new struts -shocks and possible front coilovers.. it drives well but I have a clunk developing in the right front probably a sway bar link bushing work through as it clunks when the right front is under compression. Time to pay the piper for the oil field road use early in its life.

What are the brakes like on that one? We were discussing in another thread how touchy they can be on the Compass and I wonder if the one you drove had super sensitive brakes as well.

So you’ll be trading your Tacoma in for a Compas soon?🤣
I got a compass rental last year and can’t say I noticed anything wrong with it really. Just a small SUV. I neither loved it nor hated it.

My wife says it’s ok on the highway. She likes the auto start and th ac is cold. Gas mileage seems good I haven’t topped the tank yet to measure. But no, the Tacoma is a tank, if it didn’t have a magnetic deer feature.

Can you get E-15 gas in TX? The extra little boost in octane makes my Cadillac XT4 drive a little better than 87 regular (premium recommended, but not required and the book says E-15 can be used). I've experimented with different grades of gas but mostly just use premium.

Not a Stellanis bash however simply amazes me they cannot come up with anything remotely competitive/appealing with CRV or RAV4. The amount sales/year is staggering of them.
