Smooth spring Fram filter with a lousy seal. Just stiring the pot, cuz the handwringing over the new springs is funny.

This leaf spring must have some warp to it. Got a photo of the impression left by the leaf spring in the fiber end cap?

That’s with a little graphite and spinning it 360 degrees. The spring appears flat. Running a straight edge across fiber, it’s flat. It’s the opposite of what it appears, the circled area has a deeper indentation.

Does it sit flat regardless of the rotational position of the leaf spring on the end cap? If the leaf spring is not put back in the same exact rotational orientation as it was before the filter was cut open, then it may show a leak gap. The fiber end cap depressed more on the ends where the ears are on the leaf spring.

It's great that some people will still buy all these leaky oil filters to help keep those companies in business. 😄
