decent japanese filter. I've noticed the subaru crowd are passionate about the "Right" oil filter bypass PSI settings so you can't go wrong with OEM filter.

Thing that irritates me so bad; other ovations and iffy lines sticking wrong filter on these. Why I don’t know.

Adam are the Tokyo Rokis a flat gasket or the P-style rounded gasket? That’s about the only thing I would change on the 7055- give it the rounded gasket because for some reason, the flat gaskets have been known to weep on Subies even when torqued on pretty tight.

Thanks for C&P- while it’s not pretty it did it’s job.

This uses the rounded style o ring 💍 r gasket. So far the 7055’s we use haven’t leaked or weeper . We go 5k on Subarus too

53'Stude a superb job sharing the pictures, thank you! This is the first time I've seen a Tokyo-Roko opened up after use and based on the collapsing pleats my perception is this filter is engineered for the 6,000 mile OCI for your 2022 Subaru Outback and not too much more. I have a 2021 Subaru Forester and share the same OCI as you. I just completed a comparison of some of the oil filters specified for our vehicles in the table below. Based on ISO 4548-12 testing for filtration, the use of silicon anti drain back valves and 15,000 mileage ratings, the Purolator One and Fram Tough Guard achieve a really great sweet spot for performance combined with value. With a 15,000 mile rating they are very robust.. There is a YouTube of the Purolator One after 12,000 miles and the pleats are perfectly straight. I use both the Tough Guard and Purolator One on my Forester with the 6,000 OCI and synthetic oil.

If you did a blind taste test and said this was a fram ultra, the roki fans would be denouncing the waves. In any case, looks good. But the made in Japan filters are hyped up nicely.

There’s evidence that the original Ultra/EaO/RP wire backing is likely the most durable filter element. However, while bent/distorted pleats are not an issue as long as they don’t tear, i think there’s also a good body of evidence that shows, in the absence of wire backing, a filter that is packed tightly with little space between any pleats is a close second to the wire backing. When pleats are few and/or very wide, the distorted pleats will stress both the adhesive and the filter media. If subjected to high amounts of delta-P, the distorted area can easily fail via separation from the adhesive or tearing between pleats.

That's generally true. I've seen some filter media that must've been designed with an appropriate number of pleats, but manufactured with spacing so uneven that half the pleats were packed together so tightly that I can't believe flow through those pleats wouldn't have been impaired, while some remaining pleats were stretched out very wide.
