So, I did lots of internet searching and have deliberately refrained from talking with the dealer. This new to me 2021 GC L Limited 3.6 we got, 80,000km on the clock. It has whatever their 4x4 is called. Single speed TC with that adjustable terrain switch. Sorry, the name now escapes me. Regardless, the manual calls for Shell ATF, which reading on this site could be Spirax, 3353 or something compatible with the NAG 1 and 2 transmissions. Every other fluid on this thing is simple. TIA.

Think all you need is ATF+4, I been using Valvoline Transfer Case oil which covers ATF+4. Any ATF+4 will work as it all meets spec. Mine is a 21 Limited but you can shift the transfer case from Snow, Rock, Sand etc. If you have the single speed and no shift knob (which I thought were only Laredo's) then you need a different fluid. I think the Limit gets ATF+4.

Per alldata you need ATF+4.....what does your owners manual say??

The manual calls for Shell on the 3.6 yet ATF+4 on the 5.7 equipped vehicles.

I specifically avoid the dealer as they merely sell what the computer says, who knows what is in the bottle or whom it was bottled by. Thankfully Shell only has one ATF line....... eye roll.

I thought my owners manual said said ATF+4? I used ATF+4 at 40,000 miles and Valvoline Transfer Case oil at 80,000. I thought they used the same transfer case?

Thanks gents, thus far I do not see how a multi vehicle ATF would not cover this.

The TC in our 2020 Ram 1500 uses a UTHF in a new to us turn of events.

At the Jeep dealership where I work, when fluid changes are called for, I see the mechanics at the parts counter getting the squeeze bottles, and spent Mopar bottles on the ground. Look like OEM fluid to me. If its OE fluid, not sure why it matters who made it, and what's in the bottle?

@Danno part of why I like looking into things is the bigger picture. I really do not like to pay the exorbitant prices at the parts counter when there are as good or better options for far less. A year ago I, like an idiot paid close to 90$ for a gallon of Mopar oat concentrate.

Yeah, there's at least four Shell ATF variants. I'd probably run VML and that should cover nearly all of them. This is assuming we're trying to follow the (vague) owner's manual shown above.

There were eight revisions of the owner's manual for my 2012 and that one is poorly worded.

Historically, the V8 had the QTII transfer case and the V6 had either the QTI (Shell ATF - Laredo) or QTII (ATF+4 - Limited and above), which were listed as:

MP3010 Quadra-Trac I
Capacity: .51 Liters (1 Pint)*
Type: ATF, such as Shell ATF 3353

MP3023 Quadra-Trac 2
Capacity: 1.90L (4 Pints)*
Type: ATF +4

Hey, I'm a value shopper as well. I don't pay dealer oil change prices of $160, and do my own for $60. But I was specifically answering your questions on content of bottles.

Thanks gents, so what I have gathered from this, a quality multi like Amsoil or ML would have this covered. The vaguely worded manual really just directs people to the dealer.

It came with a couple free oil changes... once thats done, I will be at it again for which oil filter to use......

From the Amsoil list, it looks like regular multi vehicle ATF for the TC whereas the transmission calls for the fuel efficient ATF. My guess, it requires thicker ATF (is that the correct assessment, thicker?). My wife's car calls for the fuel efficient formula but my Audi calls for the multi vehicle.
