Probably associated with the seal between the base and can.
Looks to be a quality made filter. Use to seeing this type with four inlet holes, this one five. Very unique way they are formed on the Euro Mann.
As Escapes have had some "interesting" filter locations in the past, googled to see how this one was. "If" the same as yt I watched, not a bad location on engine. However, 15 belly pan screws/bolts had to be removed in prep to access it.

I do like this filter and yes it in minuscule.
This is a 2.5 and the filter is on the front angled down, no interference with anything, looks easy, could probably even change the filter from the top... haven't looked under, don't think there is a hole in the belly pan for oil or filter though.
