2021 Avalon hybrid

Hi ,

Local to me is a mostly decent(scratches) 2021 Avalon hybrid with 80k miles $21k that I believe is top model . My hybrid job turned in office sadly so commuting 500 miles / week for work.

Not sure if decent commuter or known problems. Looks way nicer and comfy than a Camry on interior at least.

What percentage of it is City versus highway for your weekly driving.

Also, are you doing this in a thick of rush hour traffic? Or is it pretty much highway speeds?

We have a 2016 avalon Hybrid . Ours is the generation before yours. Styling wise it probably looks identical. If I am correct, the generation you are looking at has a more sophisticated battery technology.

We bought it used and have put about 70K on it ourselves.
Bought with 50K. now with about 120K.

We have had zero issues with it while we've had it.
It does suffer from an issue that the 2AR-FXE engine can suffer from. I do have oil seeping form the timing belt engine cover.
This was seeping when we got the car but I didn't see it because were it's seeping from is behind an engine bracket.

But the good news is it's barely seeping and im not concerned at all.

When I drove the car a lot, i found it to be the best highway cruiser we've ever owned. It's very comfortable to my wife and I and I find it to be a quiet car as well. We looked at both the Camry hybrid and the avalon and found the Avalon to be much more comfortable.
We also looked at an ES350 hybrid at the time but hated that there were no physical button in the ES350 hybrid.

When I was driving the car, we were averaging about 37.5 mpg . I think that was partially due to my driving style. I configured the dash to show me current MPG and I drove to maximize that.
My son now drives it with a lot of highway and I do not think he is as conscious about MPG as I was. The MPG average now is around 35.

We have enjoyed the car. I still think it's really nice. We have had no problems.
Would I buy it again? If I was looking for a largish sedan absolutely yes.
However, I am not sure we will need a vehicle that size or at least not in a sedan footprint.

I have no complaints on the car itself.

At this point in my life, what I want is a Volvo wagon with a Toyota Hybrid power plant.

50 miles in 50-65 minutes each way. No city. The 10-15 mins is stop and go traffic.

You can get a brand new Camry hybrid LE for $32k. The Avalon of course is a few inches longer but otherwise the same floorpan. Is it worth losing 5 years and 80k for 1/3 off the new price? You'd have to run to 15 years/ 240k to break even. Of course the Avalon is the nicer car.

Maybe look at a new Camry for giggles, see how it does on the highway.

I’ve seen the used Camry variants hit 200k with nothing but oil and tires. If it’s been decently maintained and is in good shape, rust free, no leaks, these are very solid vehicles. Same chassis as the Lexus ES - very nice wheelbase with usable back seat and more spacious interior.

Yeah I considered , just want one creature comfort from factory heated seats.

More like 28K - the LE's are discounted around here. The Camry also has THS 5; fuel economy and drivability are greatly improved compared to the Avalon.
