So brother and family pulled into my place after 400 miles road trip.

Over heating, oil spray over right side of engine bay. Towed to LR dealer.

Any knowledge from the group on this specific issue??

I bet him a case of beer its the head gasket.

😉

Funny how these expensive status-symbol vehicles love to break down and stay in the shop. Assuming no owner abuse or neglect, needing a new head gasket at 40K miles is absurd.

European vehicles are notorious for major problems like this. Even if I won the lottery, I'd stick to certain Japanese or American cars.

I have a eruopean vehicle. LAND ROVER is British/Ford.

Very nice looking but the reliability of the brand (Range Rover) is #1 reason why I will not own one.

Hmm, it’s an Indian Company. Some of the vehicles are made in Britain. Ford is no longer involved.

If it is major work, and warranty won't cover it, I would not let the dealer have the job. I would not want to support any part of a company's manufacturing of and costly servicing of their junk.

Those same people constantly complain about my Jeep. It's been running 20 years. Never been on a tow truck.

Yep, MAJORITY of the owners abuse and neglect these vehicles. Though the vehicles are dealer maintained. Before the warranty expires, they'll sell the vehicle and buy a new one. Then the cycle of abuse and neglect continues onto the next vehicle.

"Notorious" only by people who don't actually own them. Most euro owners are very happy with their cars.

Lexus would be the “only” luxury car I would buy.

Many European marques tend to be leased and abused - as long as you turn it into the dealer with no major flaws, no crashes, matching tires, within the allotted miles for the lease and the minimum of maintenance done you’re not dinged.

Reminds me of a recent Adam Carolla podcast. He first is going on about how good cars are these days. A few minutes later he is ranting about how his $100k+ Lincoln has been broken for Over a month and the dealer can’t fix it.
