Gonna change out the battery on my DIL jeep and what i was wondering is does the stop ,start feature have anything to do with the main battery ? It goes dead and won't start after sitting for a day without being driven. She said the stop, start feature quit working some time ago.

I wonder if i just disconnect the stop, start battery if all would be well. It's getting a new main battery no matter what.

According to several BITOG members on this previous thread, the stop-start feature will be automatically disabled on many vehicles when the primary battery is near end-of-life. I suspect that if you remove, recharge and test the Jeep's battery, it will show that it needs replacement.

Assuming this is the Wrangler, pull fuse 42 and eliminate the second battery. It's dumb. The Pacifica ran the same motor with a single battery.

Then since it's your daughter's just get the plug-in module that disables ESS every time (although you can still run it with the single batt, same as the Pacifica)

Here’s the deal, real world experience.

You can do the second battery bypass, but there’s a reason it’s there. I helped a friend do this and the accessory electronics were never quite right without it. He felt good about saving $100 for about a month and the decided to replace the second battery.

They run in parallel the whole time for what I can gather, except during auto-stop mode, where the smaller battery runs the vehicle electronics and the larger battery is disjoined only to power the starter. It provides for consistent vehicle voltage during restart.

One common thing I’ve read: when you get the error for auto-start disabled, replace the little battery. Might be able to get more life out of the starter battery this way … though ideally they need to be replaced together.

I pulled fuse 42 and the negative cable that goes to the small battery. Also pulled plug on the hood push switch closest to the outside on the drivers side. Works likes a charm. No start and stop any longer and everything works as normal.

S/S ? - I’d worry more about that lawn mower battery sinking the whole system. (Internet is your friend) …
Pulled mine out via the fender. (Taped up ends).
Jumped N1 to N2 posts with a starter cable.
Put new H7 AGM in upper position.
@Glenda: do you have an Aux14?
