I watched the level of the crankcase oil rise over time from when I first bought the vehicle in April to well over the full mark(1.5 cm above the full). At 5300 miles I changed the oil and sent a sample to Blackstone Labs for analysis. The analysis report showed fuel in the oil at 8.8%, flashpoint 200 degrees F.

I took the car to the dealer today and they have "never heard of such a problem" and they think I overfilled the crankcase when I changed the oil. The dealer ignored the oil analysis report.

We agreed on a plan of action. They drained the oil to 4 lines below the full mark and I will return to the dealer in another 1000 miles or so to have them check it.

To be fair to the dealer, they can't do a repair or even start testing parts without authorization from the district office. Everybody has to answer to somebody.

On the Ioniq forum another member with the same problem had a faulty injector replaced and that solved the problem. I'm thinking that's my car's problem too.

Lets hope for a faulty injector and all of them getting replaced with a revised part number. What is your fuel economy with that vehicle?

Same here on my hybrid.
Good luck with everything.

I find it funny that after all the "technological advancements" of DI etc, we are no further ahead than we were with out of tune carbs (in terms of reducing engine wear).

...it's like we've gone full circle.

I guess they taped your oil fill cap???
Toyota was doing that if I remember

I am making oil on my 2018 Hyundai Kona AWD 1.6T. It is past 5% (Polaris Labs). They only go up to 5% and I know it is higher. Mine was at 2,000 mile in late summer. I can't wait to see mid western winters. They have never heard of it, BS!! I gained under a 1/4 quart. Same crap as the Honda 1.5T
Too rich...lean out the mapping and install sodium filled valves so the leaning won't hurt the valves. That would be SMART MOVE #1 Hyundai.

Don't trust the BlackStone fuel dilution figures, send you samples to Polaris (which uses a Gas Chromatography method - FAR more accurate) and see what's really going on!

FWIW: I never have had the rising oil level issue in my daily driver (Kia Optima SX) but I drive 20 miles each way to work and she is FULLY warmed up (winter/summer). I have smelled a strong fuel smell in my oil however and keep my OCI to 4-5K miles (which is the OEM severe service interval) and use great oil/filters (see signature). I DO run a PCV OCC and use only 93 octane Top Tier fuel as well.

>> I did this experiment: I took two samples and sent them off both to BlackStone and Polaris labs when it was time to change my oil. The Blackstone report didn't indicate a problem with fuel dilution but the Polaris report showed it was well over 5%. All the other measurements that are similar between the two labs looked fairly close. So I only use Polaris Labs now for my used oil analysis reports.
