2018 Honda CRV EXL - Head Unit/Screen needs replacement. I need help finding a replacement. I don't want brand new...hoping to stay in the 125 dollar range.
It doesn't have navigation.
Any advice / recommendations on a replacement?

Looks like you're stuck with taking a gamble on Honda forums, eBay, or the junkyards. Some of the eBay stuff is junkyards selling stuff.

I got an OEM used head unit off eBay. It powered up the screen but asks for a code. The code is tied to the car that it was removed from.
After much research, I can't bypass it with a combo of pressing keys...still comes back to code. I called dealer and they couldn't find the serial number of the head unit in their database. I called Honda USA and they said same. But after looking at many head units, they all say the same type of thing on the sticker...serial, where it is made. No one on eBay have a code, I'm sure they are just all pulled from cars. The Honda dealer didn't mention any programming tool they would have. although few others on internet have.
Any insights?

Try the following procedure to look up the Honda radio head unit's serial number:

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

2. Turn ON the device and confirm that the display reads CODE. If you don’t see this message, pull the backup fuse for 1 minute, and then go back to step 1.

3. Turn OFF the device.

4. Press and hold the 1 and 6 radio preset buttons, and turn ON the device.

5. The display toggles between two screens: U with the first 4 digits of the serial number (U2200 for example,)

6. And L with the last 4 digits of the serial number (L0055 for example).

7. Ignore the U and L and record all 8 digits.

Then go to this Honda Radio Code Retrieval site and follow the instructions to get the radio unlock code.

I replaced the screen and head unit on my 2017 Civic. Bought a cheap unit from ebay, and the seller provided the code. I'm curious about this code retrieval site. I'm going to try this with my old unit and see what happens...
