Why is it that I use every brand of oil it burns oil but i switched to castrol edge high mileage. (keep in mind i was using high mileage blend of others.) But I have used literally every brand of oil and last time i went to walmart i said screw it ill try castrol this time. it was notorious for burning oil no matter what i used every 800-1000 miles. Now i used this for almost 3k miles not a single drop burned i had no clue oil brands could do this. Is it the titanium additive or something? I know my old car was very specific about oil like this. owned this 150 for 3 years now this spring.

Oil consumption can be a very mysterious thing. There are so many factors at work, physical and chemical. I found that out when a Subaru I had burned Redline oil at roughly twice the rate of major brands’ synthetic oils. 3/8 qt/1000 miles to 3/4 qt/1000 miles.

It makes no sense that titanium is the reason the consumption is less with Castrol. It’s simply a friction modifier.

That's interesting, a good friend has a similar truck.
He's had two "cab off" major engine repairs on warranty for oil consumption.
The first was new heads which didn't help.
The second was a new short block which did help.
The dealer told him it was a problem with the cylinder wall coating.
Somewhat amazingly to me the dealer completed both repairs flawlessly. They were doing so many of these they got really good at it.

I know this post was from awhile ago. But i ended up switching to Castrol edge high mileage solved it quite a bit i also used the lucas high mileage additive it has been just under 4k miles no more burning. its crazy what switching brands does. ive always used lucas aswell.
