Been battling the new-car bug for a while and may have finally succumbed

Brought minivan to dealer for recall and took a stroll thruthe show room

Took the above car out for a spin and was impressed... nimble, peppy, cameras all over the place

* 6 speed manual
* I-VTEC ( vs direct injection I hope?.???)

$22,500 on the sticker

My wife was with me and gave me the green light

I wasn’t prepared for this and have done Zero research on this car but know I didn’t want CVT nor Direct Injection if I could help it

Told salesman I’m coming back tomorrow to check out the hatch back as well... LX 1.5 liter turbo: $20,940 sticker

I imagine it’ll be nearly identical... maybe a few blind spots?

Problem is my ‘05 accord is perfectly fine ... for now. But 13 years and teaching 4 kids to drive took a little bit of a toll on the body (not much at all thankfully)

Anyone familiar with these newer Honda’s?

Any input at all would be appreciated

Thank you

I'd get the hatch myself. All Civic hatches are made in England if that bothers you however.
The thing I don't like about the Civic is that they are louder than I want a car to be at freeway speeds, even the 2018's.
You could just spend the money on an Accord sedan with the 2.0T and a manual. They do make them.

The most torque ever put into an Accord:

I looked at the Accord. Nice enough and all but just more car than I need these days

Made in England...? Wasn’t aware of that but I’d say the quality is not impacted? Driving one tomorrow

AFAIK, only HB Civics are made in UK.

Sedan Civics are made in Canada and US.

I'd lean towards 2.0L naturally aspirated engine if you plan to keep it for a long time. 2.0L is dual injection whereas 1.5T is only direct injection.

The Honda 1.5T does have a fuel dilution reputation; take a look at the Civicx.com or CRVownersclub.com websites for more info.

...

Skyactiv,
in you opinion, is this fixable with a visit to an audio installer and some sound mat?
maybe different tires also?

You sure about dual injection on the 2.0T? I didn’t think that’s the case; maybe you’re thinking of Toyota?

I test drove a 1.5, 6 speed civic b4 deciding on the Lex, and I gotta say, it was a hoot!
That little engine was sooo powerful from down low!
Between the power and handling, I really thought I was driving something much more refined!

In the end my conscious got the best of me. I couldn't live with myself purchasing a turbo'd car.
Oh, and we also kinda need auto for the traffic conditions where we live.

You are right. It is not dual injection. PFI only (yay!). I'm even more surprised that they build PFI engines in 2018. Also this is the first time they use VTC on both intake and exhaust. They get really good power with ECU tuning.

It was a fun ride

Wait..... so the sticker says I-VTEC on this car vs direct injection on others. They’re both direct injection?

What’s up with the VTEC?

That could be a deal killer as I don’t trust direct injection yet especially with so much in-town driving

Could you buy it cash? Have a home with mortgage paid off? Well funded plan for retirement?

1.5T is DI and 2.0L N/A engine is not DI.

EX 2.0L looks like the sweet spot if you look for reliability. In Canada, we have SE version which offers the most bang for the buck.

Yes
No
No idea... (remember ‘08?)

My limited thought process on this is that the accord is 13 years old with 212k miles... I’m close to being on borrowed time before I start getting nickel and dimed. Throw in the towel early, while I can and it doesn’t hurt so badly, or wait it out. Arguments for both sides and all are correct

Can’t speak for what may happen tomorrow with the car, with life, ... not talking myself into this but there’s something to be said for being proactive. And something to be said for “saving” $20k

Wish I had a crystal ball...

Oh [censored].... back to the drawing board. Thanks for the info

I don't notice this civic as noisy...and I'll rarely play the radio unless the Packers are on.
