First full interval on the glorious Motul 300V 0w40 "Trophy". I switched to this stuff after seeing too many UOAs of the M1 Formula ESP 0w40 come back out of grade. It had worked well in my other cars so figured it was worth a shot.

Roughly the same number of miles as the previous OCI, and about 12 hours of track time in some very hot temps (90+ ambient). Overall about 60 track-hours on the car spread across 40ish days since I bought it in early 2017.

Overall very pleased with the results and will be sticking with this for the foreseeable future.

How much more is the Motul than the Mobil? Doesn't seem like it did leaps and bounds better when you look at the previous UOA. Assuming track usage was similar of course.

Would disagree, the aluminum dropped a healthy amount and we saw it hold viscosity better. TBN retention was better too. Yes, track time was about the same.

The M1 Formula ESP is about $11/qt versus Motul at $17. It is definitely diminishing returns, I agree on that.

Nice video. FYI Mobil 1 ESP changed their formula.

Which one did you use?

The new has higher TBN but also higher SA.

M1 ESP goes on sale at Napa for 5.99/qt regularly. I think thats a good value for you.

Gratuitous track footage from Eagles Canyon Raceway earlier this month. Apologies for the weird interruption, but that Lizard Green 911 GT3 RS blew a tire and had to be flat-bedded off the track. We sat in the pits for about 15 minutes during the extraction.

Proper standard transmission! Love it!(y)

You are using one of the very best oils out there. I have been running Motul 300V exclusively in my race and off road trail bikes for over 15 years. There is no other oil on the market that offers better protection. Mobil 1 cannot even be compared to 300V. They are two different formulations for different purposes.

I used the ESP Formula 0w40, yes. It became factory fill on all Corvettes in 2019 and was backspec'd for previous cars.

I am totally unimpressed by ESP 0W40. HTHS of 3.53? Motul X-Clean 5W30 has HTHS of 3.6. I bet Mobil1 ESP 5W30 has HTHS higher although Mobil1 claims ditto at 3.5.
WHat caught my eye is that 300V is loaded with Esters, and yet TAN is lower! I actually might use that or Motul 5W40 Sport next summer on track. Though I must install oil cooler first. Altitude here is no joke.

I've said it before, I'd use Motul any day over Mobil1.

seems Mobil1 0/40 ESP is a CAFE dumbed down version to FS, if you were looking for Motul type numbers while shopping Walmart I'd look there or even M1 5/50 FS racing around like that.

I'd avoid the "crowd " and buy Motul on Amazon 😉

Again, HTHS of 3.53 that ESP has is NOT CAFE oil. HTHS of FS version is 3.6, ESP is at 3.53. Any oil that has HTHS 3.5 and higher is not energy conserving oil.
Wal Mart does not carry 5W50, it carries 15W50. However, while price wise it is sound choice, I am not sure for daily use it makes sense unless vehicle carries requirement for W50 oils.
M1 5W50 and 15W50 are very thick oils, but their HTHS is 4.4 and 4.5. Motul 0W40 HTHS is 3.9, while KV100 is 13.9. KV100 of 5W50 M1 is 17.2, while 15W50 KV100 is 18. That is bcs. base stocks are not on par with Motul. Now, compare that to Motul 300V 15W50, KV100 is 18.2, but HTHS is 5.3! Motul clearly delivers higher HTHS with lower KV100. Reason: Esters.

Just ran ECR for the first time a few weekends ago with Chin. What a fantastic track, easily my favorite in TX now. Too bad it's a pretty good haul from Houston!
