Fresh results back from my 2017 Corvette Grand Sport on the new oil. Here's the info I provided to Blackstone:
Quote
This is my first full oil change interval with the new dexos2 Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0w40. I have also moved to a warmer climate so the car is now being driven year-round and sees many more short trips than it used to. It was on track for about 10 hours and I kept the oil slightly above the full line (hence the ¾ qt added), per GM's track usage recommendation. I changed the oil when the car's oil life meter was at about 20%.

Blackstone's response back was that things appear to be wearing well despite the longer interval. They did flag the viscosity as being slightly low but said it could be either shearing from the track or some residual 5w30 left over. I'm thinking I will stick with this new Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0w40 but maybe not run it quite as long. The lower TBN and elevated TAN, along with the borderline viscosity aren't ideal. Overall, I am still pleased with how it just eats up the track miles and then happily purrs along around town. For those unfamiliar, here is the datasheet for this new Mobil 1 oil: https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us/pvl/files/pdfs/em%20sga%20-%20corvette%20mobil%201%20esp%20formula%200w-40%20one%20pager.pdf Obligatory photo from my most recent track day at Circuit of the Americas attached. I'll post video separately soon. cool

I think you got it changed at about the right time. No sense pushing the OCI to the limit on an engine that's still breaking in. How quickly did the OLM drop during the days at COTA?

Looks like a great oil choice and excellent results. Seems like you are a perfect candidate for my typical OCI of 5000 miles. Change at at 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 etc. That way it's easy to remember and calculate.

Nice. I could tell where that was without even reading! Get the video up!

Thanks for the report! It'll be interesting to see how things change as you get more miles on it. I also wonder how the viscosity will look on future reports once it's closer to 100% 0w40 in there. I also think it'll be interesting to compare your reports with ESP Formula 0w40 with my reports with ESP Formula 5w30.

Oddly, the OLM basically doesn't move after a track day. I think it may have gone down a few percent the entire drive there, the track day, and the drive back. I'm thinking I might start doing the changes a bit earlier and base it more on track time than the OLM since it doesn't seem to be very sensitive to track driving.

Thanks, and yes, I moved late last year.

With regards to TAN, what is the base figure on a virgin sample of this oil? If it's say 3.0 then there's no need for you to worry about TAN at your OCI.

Not sure. There was a VOA of this oil posted on here but they only paid for TBN.

Sadly it's not the same Admiral Blue despite having the same name. It is supposed to pay homage to that with the white and red, hence the "Heritage Package" name.

Great looking car and report. I'm a big fan of the 0W40 M1 in high-performance LS engines. I think the true weight of the oil is closer to a 0w35. Looks like you've got some extra sidewall on those tires?

No, it's closer to a 0w-40, because it is a 0w-40 and J300 doesn't include a 35 grade. Ergo, it's a 30 or a 40.

It's a thin 40, yes. OEM tires were 285/30R19 and 335/25R20 -- new ones are 315/30R18 and 335/30R18...so yep, more sidewall.
