2016 Yamaha V1 Sport 3 cylinder TR1: 2 seasons, 35 hours on oil, 75 on unit. Oil was LiquiMoly Marine/PWC 10W-40. This includes a valve cover gasket change last year and I installed a Riva K&N style filter 2 years ago which could account for the higher silicon but it appears to be similar to the previous sample. Changed with Motul 7100 10W-40. Wear rate on iron seems consistent if even a little lower compared to the previous oil fill.

I’ve been looking forward to this UOA for a few years 😂. Looks to have sheared down pretty good, to a 30wt.

I asked about this oil a while back under a different username. I ran it for a season, seemed to perform fine for the money. I now run Rotella T6 15w40, and I’m hoping it won’t shear down as much. The LiquiMoly 10w40 is about 1/3 the price compared to BRP oil for anyone that has a supercharged Seadoo.

Thanks!

Looking good & metals are lowering this interval. Viscosity taking a bit of a hit but that seems to be the case with shared sump in MC use. Thanks for sharing your V1 Sport UOA.

This is a personal watercraft actually, but they do also shear because you often run them pretty much wide open for extended periods as a marine engine

Woops, I read your discription & not the title (2016 Yamaha V1 Sport 3 cylinder). 🥴
Sounds like a motorcycle...ha! Yeah, high RPM's can chop it up I'd imagine. Thanks for the clarification.

I ran M1 0W-40 in my 1.8 HO for 550 hrs in under 3 years (OCI 50 hrs); no need for Motul IMO. :)

FWIW: UOA, Leak down and Valve Clearance was all spot on.

I get where you're coming from, but if I'm gonna run premium oil in anything it's gonna be this engine- 6-8000rpm all day long for hours and hours, and the early TR1s can sometimes have bearing issues, so I'm gonna play it safe and just use really good oil.

M1 Euro 0W-40 is as good as anything else you can get for this purpose. I ran 550 hours in 2.5 years with 50 hr OCI. I did 250 mile day trips; 40 miles offshore etc. My engine ran very very hard.

I’m not a boat guy (would like to be maybe someday, lol), but your post got me curious -

You go 40 miles offshore on a Waverunner?

We have a 2007 VX Cruiser with less than 90 hours. I need to change the oil this season, thanks for posting the results.

It can be doable, a lot of people do the Miami-Bahamas run, though it's best to do it with a group and plenty of prep and extra fuel etc.

I don't envy you tbh, I've seen what it's like changing the oil filter on those MR1s and it doesn't look like much fun.

I totally overfilled the thing the first time I changed the oil. It gets such low usage, it’s probably fine but I feel like it’s due.
