2016 VW Passat S?

They look the same since 2011. That's 7 model years of practically the same old same old.

VW must be hurting really bad.

They're very nice cars with a good balance of power, economy, and features.

I would take it over any of its competitors, even before you factor in price... Where the Passat then beats them hands down.

I do have a well known and unashamed bias though.

The Americanized Passat is nothing like the former European version. You're essentially buying a Camry without the reliability or dealer network for support.

They're cheap for a reason. Just remember that.

In what world is the B6 or B5 a more reliable car than the B7? (US or otherwise)

In what world is it like a Camry? It may not be what you (think) you want from a Passat, but it still handles better, has better engines and transmissions, and is a nicer place to spend a long journey.

I'll have some of what you're smoking.

I definitely wouldn't compare it to a Camry. I'm not a huge fan of the B7, but I'd take it over anything else in its class. I'm a sucker for the B6 (especially a 3.6L 4Motion), and the B8 is highly desirable in my book if I was in the market for a sedan.

Regardless of Nicks hate for VW and some VW snobs turning there nose at the American built Passat, I applaud VW for building an assembly plant in the U.S. and giving Americans jobs.

The American B7 Passat is a very nice vehicle and despite being a 2011 design and heavily discontented. It still holds an edge in many areas like handling, ride quality, fit and finish, passenger room, refinement quietness, when compared to the likes of Camry, Accord or Altima, while retaining good fuel economy, especially the 1.8TSI. It just shows how far advanced the previous generations were. Of course those criticizing blindly never probably even sat in one.

I never said the old versions of the Passat were more reliable. I said the new Americanized Passat is nothing LIKE the old European Passat. I wasn't talking about reliability or I would have said reliability.

Let the OP go and buy a Volkswagen and get the VW ownership experience. Just don't let him say he wasn't warned.

Really?

I think things get blown way out of proportion. I'd buy another VW/Audi in a heartbeat.

They aren't as bad as you are making them out to be.

Me too.

As I said, let the OP buy his 2016 Passat. The prices are very attractive. Heck, you can't buy a Hyundai Elantra it seems for those prices.

Volkswagen has many attributes that make them attractive. Unfortunately, and in my personal experience, those positive attributes go sour after a few years of ownership. If the cars were so fantastic they wouldn't have the reputation that they have.

I'm a lifelong VW owner. My first car was a 1980 Scirocco S, then I had a 1981 Rabbit LS diesel, a 1996 Passat VR6, a 1999.5 Golf TDI, and lastly my 2009 Jetta TDI. I'm not new to these machines or the corporation. I am simply expressing to the original poster that the Passat may not be all it appears to be and I'm giving fair warning.

Would I buy another one? YES! Do I recommend them to others? NO.

BTW, my screen name is the phonetic pronunciation of the letters VW in German. It's in my blood. I just don't believe in misrepresenting something because I'm a fanboy.

Well, I found a 16' S model at a dealer online with just over 6k for Under $15k so that's why I was wondering.
