Last year I purchased a 2016 F150 5.0 with 228,000 miles. It started idling poorly in warm weather. It’s commonly the VCT solenoids at issue with this problem. Here’s what I found after 200,000 miles of 10,000 mile oil changes. It does hold almost 8 qts. I believe it was mostly MC Synthetic blend. It’s been running perfectly since the solenoids. I just completed a 3,000 road trip. It returned 18-19 mph and used 1 quart of 0w40 PP over 6,500 miles. The truck currently sits at 243,000 miles.

I'm pleased with my 15 5.0 I purchased new. The 6R80 has also been solid for me (I'm not towing anything to even mention). Hope you get many more mils out of it.

I know Ford updated the 6R80 pan with three magnets from two but no sure which year, I know the 2014 uses two. There's also a gasket update to help prevent metal from getting into some of the connections / connectors. Have you checked for recalls / TSB updates for the 2016?

If you're ever servicing the drivetrain please drop the pan and clean / add magnets. I also wonder if the VCT issue could be helped by using Valvoline Restore and Protect.

I also like the 6R80. Since this truck typically stays at our winter retreat 1000 miles from my home shop, I went ahead and did the leadframe and three quick fluid changes to combat TC shudder. Now there's a campaign on the leadframe. There's a good chance I'll be reimbursed for the leadframe. Up to '14 have one magnet. '15 and up have 2. I added a Dorman pan w/drain. Fluid changes take about 15 minutes.

As an added plus for this truck, I can buy E85 cheap when I head south. It costs me about $31 for 500 miles of E85 range.

I thought I was stealing it at $1.32 a few days ago. $0.86 is crazy.
It's subsidized for promotion at the energy plant that makes it. The plant is in the middle of a cornfield about 9 miles from the interstate, and the pump is about 1/2 speed. It takes 15 minutes to pump 30 gallons. It's currently about $2/gallon at local stations.

There’s going to be some people stroking out over the 10k oil changes with Synblend. 3k or it’s going to toss a rod.
It does look good for what it is, and this is the worse (PCV) side. It was a salesman's truck, so it had a lot of extended runs, plenty of maintenance, and put on miles quickly. The intake VCT solenoid is externally filthy. Is that why one had issues?
Looks very good! I’d just run VRP 5w-30 at 5k OCI’s and call it a day.
I'm comfortable with 5,000 OCI's. This is the only non-DI car I have left, so it's getting the last of the non-SP rated oils I have. My ATSV seems to have LSPI issues on the non-SP oil, so this truck gets to use it up.

I drop the pan and service tranny every 30k. I prefer a full service, but these 6R80 seem to do best off 30k pan drops. I have no recalls I'm aware of. Mine had a TSB and a free "fix" of cooled seats. And a TSB changing coolants. Mine is a 15.
