Some cars want you to go the full OCI with the FF, particularly Honda. I don't know what Fiat says to do, though.

2013: follow the OLM... but you can't see how much oil life is left so one day the change-oil-immediately-light will be flashing. happened at 22k for me.

Yeah, I change mine on 15-18k these days on a B4 diet. Back then I've never thought to keep the car pass leasing so all I did was warranty minimum maintenance.

But I'm not sure I would call the 6.2 a production piece unless they decide to start really building it. Really small numbers and loooong wait times for orders...

I think there's a lot of misunderstanding about that. They've suspended further ORDERS for the 2015 model, not production. They have over 9000 orders on the books for delivery, they've delivered somewhere between 4000 and 5000 to owners, and they're building as fast as the narrow spot in the supply pipeline allows (apparently the IHI blower from what I've read). Heck, there are at least 3 in their owners hands here in my area already- two Challengers and a Charger that I know of.


Speak of the devil... I went to read another forum and someone had posted this link about ramping up production for the third time. The numbers don't exactly match what I've read before unless you interpret "sold" as "delivered" in this article:

I can not speak too authoritatively on Fiat Chrysler companies engine manufacturing details or it's chemical use but if they are typical of other Domestic or previously Domestics OEM they are not using anything fancy as FF.

What makes you think the FF is Pennzoil Conventional?

Nothing wrong with early drain and refill.

Dropping a can of GM EOS or half a bottle of Redline Engine Break_In additive would be a good idea.

Driving it like you stole it doing 3/4 and WOT pulls with engine breaking in 3rd would help seat the rings as well.

Dodge used to recommend doing some hard WOT pulls in the owners manual to help break the engine in back in the day. Not sure if they still do.


It's as if you are reading my mind. I break new cars in the good old fashioned way. Taking it easy on them just sets them up for shock when you finally abuse them, by accident or on purpose. I put the redline additive in as soon as I signed the paperwork.

I believe Pennzoil has an agreement with Ram or something similar and the dealers stock Pennzoil Conventional for oil changes. Just did my first at 1260 miles and it was a medium brown color. Pennzoil Conventional is supposed to be best to keep ticking to a minimum but synthetics are only $8 more per 5 quart jug...

I could be wrong but I don't believe the 2500 trucks have the MDS system therefore you can use 5w30 to help protect the engine a little more.

I have seen at least one Hellcat Chally driving around, but no Chargers. A guy at work got a new Shaker Scat Pack. Pretty sweet, 6 speed. The blue Ram in the background is mine.
