Hello and this 2015 Ford Expedetion with the "3.5 ECO BOOST" engine had this OEM filter on for 21,005 miles. Had a couple of oil changes and last oil change supposedly was done around 15k. Enjoy the photos.

Wow! Spend 40-60K on a new Expedition and then cheap out on the filter during an oil change? SMDH! Probably a good thing it was Champ built filter and not a MC.

Yeah, I was shocked to say the least. There was some grit in the can but the angle and flash messed it up.

Looks like a Champ made(Fram Filt.) design. So am I to understand that the owner left the OE filter on but changed the oil only at least once? Is that recommended warranty procedure for this vehicle?

21k mi is a hefty fci, and the OE looks to be up to the task. Still 'if' not warranty procedure, owner assuming some, however minor, risk. Also this many miles this soon one would assume a fair amount of highway miles. That's a plus.

Thanks for c&p.

This is one of the work or fleet vehicles. It didn't have a PM or oil changed by our shop. The sticker I removed was done at 15,500~ at a place that said "UNIVERSAL LUBES"

"Universal Screws"? Sounds "iffy".

Good thing it's in your capable hands now...

Ford factory-fitted filters are indeed made by Champion (or FRAM Filtration or whatever they're called now). Ford aftermarket (Motorcraft) are made by Purolator.

Perhaps because the vehicle is in fleet use, not concerned about vehicle warranty.

If this is indicative of future use and service, imo should stick with a quality filter, if not an extended oci/fci filter.

Not sure if that's a fleet lease or what, but if the owner doesn't maintain the vehicle, & something fails, Ford has every excuse to bounce the warranty, and the doo-doo will hit the fan. Good thing they've got you on it, car51, actually doesn't look bad.

Yeah, it's a fleet use vehicle and lot of miles on it. I said something to corporate Friday and blistered some paint off the walls so hopefully they will listen and when it shows a vehicle NEEDS A PM; that it GETS A PM. yeah, didn't look bad at all

We are now using the ECO POWER 5w30 oil that I see meets DEXOS in most stuff except GM, HONDA, Toyota and Mazda's. Can't wait to see how well this oil will perform but I don't expect issues

8010615. I'm guessing 01/06/15?

Looks similar to a CQ Blue. Which is no surprise since both are made by Fram (Motorcraft filters from the dealer and stores are made by Purolator). The original Fram Fomoco filters aren't sold anywhere, and are only at the factory.

Some factory Fram Ford filters are like the Ultra, thick pleats like they're wire-backed.

This is probably why Ford uses two different filters for factory assembly and service. They look obviously different, both inside and out, so anybody that tries to sue Ford will be caught not taking care of their cars.

Yeah, seems like a lot of grit in the bottom of the can. Might be an indication the oil went way too far also. Any idea how many oil changes there were before you got hold of it ... maybe just one?
