hello,

My Wife's 2014 rav4 is up for some maintenance and I can't recall if I changed the rear diff or transfer case. Toyota specs 75w-85 for both, however I cant find any local, just 75-90. I do have a few litres of Motul gear 300 75-90 I could use. Amsoil does make a 75w-85 for $27cdn, the local amsoil dealer doesn't have in stock, it would take 2 days to get to me. Is there a big difference btwn the 85 vs 90 in cold weather? weather?

" Is there a big difference btwn the 85 vs 90..." A typo, yes?

Unless there's some huge cost penalty in using your Motul stash, I'd use it.
If your Motul gear oil set you back hundreds and is better suited to some special application, order the Amsoil and suffer the two days.
I'm assuming there is no appreciable difference between the specified 75W-85 or your Motul UNLESS the graded spec includes some quality level...which I doubt it does.

Winter's coming, get it done.

I used 75w-90 on my RAV4. Had to use ramps to get the rear high enough to get a breaker bar under to loosen the diff fill plug. The plugs were tight.

Thank you, the motul is for my Subaru. My wife is being by the book on specs so I figured I asked 75-85 vs 75-90. If not much difference I'll use the motul and use the money for engine oil.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to borrow some.
