Ever since 1985's Tuned Port Injection, the Corvette has been admired and respected by every auto manufacturer in the world. This new model will have even more admiration and respect. You can be sure of that. Delivering a car like this to a $50,000 price point is an incredible achievement. I think it looks awesome.
Do I think they could do better with the back of it? Yes. I never liked the back of the C5 or C6 either for that matter. Would never stop me from buying one though.

Keeping in mind that a ZR1 can be priced out to $115,000, there is one thing General Motors needs to contemplate seriously:

-- An ultra-upscale interior package as an option. Something that looks like it belongs in an Aston Martin. The finest materials, the best leather, wool carpeting etc. They could do amazing things with about ten grand. It would do wonders for the marketing and overall prestige of the car.

If you look at the C3's that ended in 1982 they had Cadillac grade interiors. GM downgraded that in 1984 to the Pontiac level. It's an oversight that's long overdue in addressing. However, since the $50,000 price point is so important to the car's success, addressing it as optional equipment is the best of both worlds.

AGREED!!

That would silence the naysayers who's ONLY objective is to BASH this car (and ANYTHING GM does now), and ALWAYS go after it's interior for that end.

Along the same lines; they should also offer a lightweight 'competition' interior sans all of the weighty bells and whistles/doodads/gimmickry, with featherweight, high bolstered seats (maybe even fixed-back shells from Racetech or such), EVERYTHING that touches the driver in alcantara, or real suede (along with the dash cover to kill glare), and just stop short of a factory installed SCCA legal cage/harnesses (but prep everything for this IF the owner wants to install one!).

People have always been a-bashing on the Vette ever since I got my first one in 1978. It is to be expected, it's a very polarizing design. few will go 'meh', most will either love it or despise it.

I think it represents some of the best 'bang for the buck' in automobiles today! Just wait for the new Z06...

The 2012 Grand Sport looks waaaaaaaaay better than this Stingray.

Looks like the design team never had a good concept from the very beginning. Yuck. Maybe in black it won't look not as bad.

Just for clarification about my opinion....I have not hated or bashed 'vette's as a habit. I generally don't like many GM products but the Corvette has been one of my favorite cars since I was a kid. I think the current model (not the 2014) is truly a beautiful car. Very nice lines, elegant and classy yet powerful looking. The new one though lacks asthetics and styling. It doesn't compare to Ferrari in that department but it does look American in style. Not my cup of tea...and I hope they improve it in the future.

For those who don't like how it looks, don't worry whatever you are driving will be too slow for you to catch up and get a good look at it anyway...

If the public roads were a racetrack, you would certainly be right. Still, as the vette zooms past me, all I'd be able to see would be that gastly rear view.

I had a 78, it was the exact same paint job as pictured above without decals. Very attractive car.

But they had a lot of issues back then with quality and such. Sure held their value good, as mine actually appreciated in value and got me a few hundred more than I paid for it.

I believe the Corvette of that period had the highest resale value of any automobile sold in the United States.

Yes, I know aesthetics are VERY subjective, but it's funny how Camry/Accord/Civic drivers could call this rocket sled "ugly".

The mark of a true enthusiast is when the performance becomes way more important than the looks. Many think my old Healey replica is ugly but learn to respect what 550 hp can do in a sub-3000 pound car!

Well, I went to NAIAS today and had a chance to scope out the new Corvette.

It looks *good*. I'd liken it to seeing a Ferrari Enzo for the first time. It looks a little awkward in photos, but seeing it in person brings out all kinds of small details that photos just don't have the resolution to properly detail.

The car is lean. Like a welterweight boxer who's been cutting to make weight. A lot of lean mass and very little flab. It makes the old Corvette and especially the new Viper look positively bloated and bulbous.

It is not over-styled. The most polarizing part, the rear end, is full of detail. What looks like a bunch of extraneous styling is actually vents and coves, with mesh details in the shadows, where you can see radiators and bits of aluminimum and composets. The only piece I think look a bit silly was the round tailpipes. They're large, bright, and they take up a lot of real estate in the center. A single styled outlet, a la Lamborghini, would have looked cool.

It was hard to see the interior while rotating on the stand, but they did have a frame on display that included one of the performance seats. It is seriously scalloped. So much material has been removed, I image for weight savings, that the seat looks fragile. Of course, it's made of some type of composite, so I'm sure it's plenty strong. It's just a nice, very race-like touch. Much different that the thickly bolstered seat typical of GM. It is very Porsche-esque.

All told, GM hit it out of the park. It moves the car forward on all fronts. I'll use the boxing reference again. It's like a former champ who's coming back to retake the crown. It's leaner and lighter on its feet. It's smarter, while still being tough. It may have lost some of the brashness of youth, but it remains humble to its past. It has become all the more serious a contender.
