Got a new 2014 Chevy Impala LTZ with 3.6 liter V6, 305 HP engine, fully loaded. On a recent 168 mile trip, I got 28.9 mpg, pretty good as it was not all highway driving.

The adaptive cruise control is freaky, it actually stops the car when car ahead of you stops at a light., then starts when it does. You only steer, it handles brake and gas.

My 2012 Avalon with the 3.5L V6 gets 30-32mpg. It also has adaptive acceleration which comes on anytime it wants.

That is scary. Someone is going to buy that car, drive it for 3 years with adaptive cruise control, then buy something without adaptive cruise control ...

with adaptive cruise control is it nearly impossible to rear end the car in front of you? If so it certainly should reduce your insurance rates dramatically.

I thought the same, especially with rear cross traffic radar (backing out of parking space or driveway). BUT, you can turn these features off or not use them.

My insurance gives discount for anti-lock braking, but you can't turn that off.

Sure you can!

I had one of these as a rental, it was an LTZ but it didn't have the adaptive cruise. What a nice car! That car drove like a dream and was every bit as nice as my E-Class.

It did have the forward collision alert, which I thought was a very nice feature. Someone cut me off and slammed their brakes on right in front of me trying to get across to an exit, and it worked!

That's a useless statement unless you drove behind him and in the exact same manner the entire time.

Beautiful car, and I just love that 3.6 and its wicked power curve.

This may be the best FWD car on the market right now, and I like the look, too.

Sharp!

Fixed again.

At least in my Forester with Eyesight, the dash will display icons and an audible chime warns me that the system has deactivated due to visibility issues.

I've only had it deactivate a few times, during cold drives where fogging or icing near the top of the windshield was an issue, or if I'm driving into the setting/rising sun. As soon as visibility improves, it chimes again and the warning indicators turn off.

The warning lights mentionesmentioned above are the same two as when I manually deactivate each, one for pre-collision, the other for Lane departure.

Probably works like the system in the Taurus. You get a few dings, the info center says Cruise Not Available and it disengages. If it happens and the system is not on, it does the ding and says Not available and won't let you set it.

Yes, it's awesome and very easy to get used to.

The thing I like best about the new Impala is the 4-spoke steering wheel.

Gives me the 6:00 o'clock position to rest my hand.

I'd buy the car for that reason alone.

Good to hear that such a large, powerful car can get such good mileage numbers. If/when I need something larger than my Cruze, the new Impy is on the list to shop.
