2014 Chevy express van rear end making a slight noise shifting into gear, 200 and some thousand miles
I’ve checked the u joints and they’re perfect
I’ve changed the readend grease, when is going from 1st to 2nd gear when it shifts it’s making a slight noise, I don’t think it’s the transmission

If this is in the wrong place I apologize

It's unlikely the rear end makes a noise from 1-2 shift.

The vans are an echo chamber and if your rear were going out I'd expect a constant drone/hum/harmonic/growl that's speed dependent.

I can't say exactly what your issue is because we're not working with a great deal of information.

As noted above, it might be where the van has an echo chamber and like you said it’s kind of like a cave

If the rear end was bad, it would be worse shifting into drive or reverse from neutral. It’s possible to set the parking brake, make sure the van can’t move (chock the wheels too), put it in neutral & start turning/wiggling the driveshaft by hand. My bet is one something loose in the transmission. That’s what my work Transit 250’s 10R80 does-it makes more noises than a bucket of bolts!

I’ll try this

Cargo vans are notoriously loud inside especially echoing any drivetrain noises. With that mileage it’s going to have some noise. Notice the speed when it’s worse. Does it make that noise rolling at that speed in neutral? If not, and only when the transmission is in a particular gear it could be planetary gear set wear in the transmission. Drive on….

it’s usually when you first started to drive it when it goes from 1st to 2nd gear makes a hard shift, it will still do it when it’s warmed up but it’s more noticeable when you first get in it, it’s a stretch not a super long but long, as noted it’s like a echo chamber, it’s sitting on about 225,000 mile but it runs perfect

Do you know what transmission it is? 6L90E? My father in law has a 2018 with the 6.0 and it must have a hard upshift into second sometimes (and it only has 40k miles) because when he was riding in my Oldsmobile that has a shift kit with a pretty harsh 1-2 shift he commented that it was like his van.

I have a video of my van, it makes a hard clunking sound when it goes into third gear the transmission shifts fine, I don’t know how to upload the video which you can barely hear it

There's a 99% chance this is your transmission and a 1% chance this is your rear axle assy

I think the most you could do is upload to YT and then link here, but honestly: 1) I'd do so under a new thread/title and 2) the odds we can provide any accurate diagnosis ‐‐ based upon a video which is hard to hear by your own admission -- are very slim.

I'd pull codes even if no CEL. Pull Pending codes too. It would be nice if the PCM could target a solenoid for you.
