Im thinking about changing the MTF in my 2012 Jetta. Has any one done it? Im just curious of how its done or any tips before doing. I have some Amsoil 75w-90 GLF4 I bought. So im pretty sure i got the right stuff. Thanks!

It's as easy as it gets. You remove the drain plug and fill plug from the transmission and you drain the gearbox oil.

You reinstall the drain plug and you refill through the fill hole.

Nothing special or complicated about it.

Your manual will say 75W90, GL4 but that is NOT what VW uses. If you use that fluid you will get shifting problems, especially when cold.

VW uses a very thin (less than 8 cSt) MTF in their MTXs. Fuchs FE 75W is the OEM fluid.

the Fuchs stuff is ~6.4 cst IIRC and two other choices that are 7.7 are Pentosin MTF2 and ROWE topgear, both 75w80 synthetics.

Don't put in a 10cst 75w80 or 75w90

Whatever you do..DO NOT USE A GL-5 spec product...USE ONLY GL-4.

Like a few others have said a better option for modern VW manual units any 75w-80 GL-4 is a excellent option, there are a number to choose from Pennzoil Synchromesh , Valvoline, Shell Spirax S6 GXME,
Castrol Syntrans, ect.

The Pentosin MTF2 is a very good choice for modern VW as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Pentosin is a OEM vendor for VW and Audi.

Well i changed the fluid. It was a pain in the a**. And after spilling a whole bunch of fluid i finally acomplished it. Shifting feels the same. So i might update if it gets better or worse. Or if the transmission fails. Im pretty confident it will be fine.

It will be fine other than cold shifting. You will have to be extremely patient when temps drop below 40F as first and 2nd gear while driving will be difficult until fluid starts warming.
