which car? they use a bunch of different engines.

for example 2011 forester used the fb25
but 2011 outback the old ej253

so in an effort not to research and write a book response which car were you looking at or which engine?

I think they are going to change the vvt system slightly and add DI in 2013 .. or whats what seemed to be the news a few monthes ago.

IMO I'm happy my 2011 fb25 doesnt have DI.. I'm not a DI scarist but its already an all new engine.. I dont need DI + all new engine gremlins...

Not so far.

The 2.5 in the Forester has a timing chain, as opposed to the belt in my 2012 Legacy's 2.5.

It's sad to see the tried n' true 5EAT trans go away, but the Aisin CVT used in the 2010+ Legacy and now Impreza has been flawless.

They're going CVT for better fuel economy.

So you are saying the 2012 legacy still has the ej253?

I cant find info on it anywhere.

Correct.

2012's still use the EJ253 (non-turbo) 2.5i

I'm curious as to why they don't fit them with the FB series 2.5. I'd take a chain over a belt and I like the oil filter placement on the FB better. I've only got 3900mi on my Legy yet, so I haven't had to touch the thimble sized oil filter from underneath yet!

Are Subaru still Fuji Heavy Industries cars? Or have they gone to GM and are no longer that manufacturer..

FTR, i always likes a Subie. Its a great car! And criminally underrated compared to the Japan Big 3 IMHO.

GM sold their subaru stake to Toyota.

Ga$$ers are all well and good, but I want to know when we will get the boxter diesel that has been rumored for a while now...

Subaru USA is just down the road in Cherry Hill... I should go make a request in person...

the underating is likely due to their quirky styling. they never tried to be mainstream in looks. sometimes i loved mine for it, sometimes I didn't.

If I couldn't drive a jeep, I'd look at a forester. But whereas I'm fine with the little v6 in the large jeep, having driven underpowered subarus for too many years, that forester would need to be diesel, or turbo, or anything that did not remind me of the slug-o-wagons I'd owned B4.

Much respect to the 2.2 and 2.5 boxers. Well-designed powerplants!

They started putting the 2.0L back in the Imprezas (2012) on the "new" 2012's

And CVT's are horrid. I will never buy another 1. The Nissan dealer and no one on the interwebz knows when to switch the fluid because of some equation for miles/time/something or another.

I'll stick to my 4eat

I've heard nothing but good press on the CVT in the new Subarus, including from members here who have CVT-equipped Subarus. It looks like Subaru is much more right in their implementation this time around.

Yes, the Aisin built Subaru CVT is a bit different than the Jatco units used by pretty much everyone else these days.

I've driven a few Nissan's with Jatco CVTs and a few 1st gen Saturn Vue AWD's with the (I dunno who built it) CVT.

I didn't mind the Nissans at all, but the Subaru CVT is much more tolerable IMO.

These Aisin units use a roller chain as opposed to a segmented belt in their CVTs. Not sure if that's better, but the overall performance on them is awesome.

As far as Subaru looks, yes they're different. The Legacy isn't bad. Forester's are tough beasts with decent ground clearance, plus you can tow with them. The spin-on trans filter is nice with them too.

If it's ANYTHING like the Nissan Murano CVT... They aren't going to sell a whole lot of Subies.

I'm talking from a performance standpoint. I should have been more specific.

The 2.5L was likely too large. The goal was to mount low and far back as possible for best handling and also nice low hood/cowl. Not the typical Subaru odd shapes.
