I would have instantly questioned any mechanic telling me this, especially with a car with such low miles on it. A/C compressors generally make very little noise when they're working properly. Mine (Hitachi) has 215k on it and God knows how many hours idling on hot days, and it's quiet as a mouse.

Makes me wonder when we have trucks with many multiples of 100k miles with completely original AC that works excellent.

That was the response from the Chrysler dealer when my parents had a Wrangler that was DRINKING oil.
I wonder how much of it comes from the manufacturer? We've had relatively few issues with our FOrds over the years - but when we did, the dealer was excellent about it. Chrysler products ... not so much.

This car pulls 32.9mpg if she is coasting down hill. I thought it would be a 40mpg car. I guess not. It is an auto and I know in real world driving that doesn't help.

People on BITOG are so hyperbolic, sometimes. A failed A/C compressor that was defective from day one (as the OP said it made noise) does not mean Honda is ruined as a company. Come on, people. If you don't like new Hondas, that's fine.
This is what warranties are for, to fix the defective items that sometimes show up on newer cars.
Get it fixed for free under warranty and move on with your life.

Sometimes you have to be hard nosed. We had one of our 2007 Civics at work, block crack, which was common enough for a TSB to be written. Took it to the dealership for water in the oil. They checked it out via coolant pressure test and it held for 24 hours so they changed the oil and sent us on our way. I went to AutoZone and grabbed a bottle of coolant UV dye and threw it in. Once it showed on the oil cap I told them to keep it until they figured it out. They replace the short block, under the extend warranty that was provided per the TSB, 8 years/80k miles. Didn't have to pay a dime for the failed diagnostic or the short block replacement.

Last oil change was Shell 5w20. Even the FF is was just over 31mpg.
Her old one would get over 40mpg if you hammered on it. It you drove like a grandpa it would near 50mpg. It was a manual . The manual 230k mile civic felt considerably faster than the 12' AND got better milage

My mom had multiple A/C compressor problems in her 1999 CRV. It seems like a common problem on any Honda with a Keihin compressor.

So did the Honda dealer replace the compressor? I've never seen so much drama over a failed part under warranty. I mean, geez, our Chrysler Town & Country had the A/C compressor replaced three times before we sold the van with a little over 40,000 miles on it. Let the dealer fix it and move on with life.
My 1995 Ford Escort still has it's original A/C compressor at over 214K miles on it, and we are in a heat wave, and it works great!

If ANY stealer says that its "normal" I'd go out to their lot and start up 2-3 others. If they are "broken" (ie they are quiet) I'd tell the idiot who said normal to either fix the ones that are broken or fix mine.
If its doing it BEFORE I bought it, it stays theirs.

I also want to know if the dealer replaced the compressor under warranty. Having said that, if they don't there are probably ways to make sure it's bad when you bring it into the dealer next time. Or go to different dealers to see if you can find one that will replace it under warranty or escalate it.
The only failed A/C compressor that I have personally come across was on a vehicle that is rarely driven and I think that, and rust had more to do with the failure than anything else.
