Please find following my thoughts, opinion, review of my purchase of a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi SLS Sport.
I am very particular by nature. I, along with many others, am feeling the economic crunch. I was previously driving a 2007 Mazda CX-9 AWD crossover. A wonderful vehicle in its own right, but I needed something more frugal on gas. I started the "hunt" for my next purchase sometime in April of 2011. I compared mid sized sedans head to head to decide which would be the car for my family and I. I visited dealers and drove approximately five (5)makes in order to gain insight as to what vehicle was the perfect fit.I found, mid June, the right car for me.
The test drive of the Suzuki was very pronounced. The car drove very "European". By this I mean it was very "solid" traveling down the road. The handling was/is razor sharp to me. The noise level was/is almost non existent. I felt like I was driving a much more expensive car. The model that I purchased was the top tier model offered for the Kizashi, the SLS Sport (silver exterior/black leather interior). The vehicle is front wheel drive with a CVT transmission. The vehicle makes approximately 180 horsepower. I will say that the black leather interior is neatly accomplished. The seats are outlined with contrasting white stitching around their borders. The seats are very comfortable for this 200+ lb. man. Their ability to be configured and saved to three memory positions is greatly appreciated. They are heated by three stage seat heaters, L-M-H. The gauges are quite legible to read. The stereo is very powerful (425 watts). It is very clear with as good a separation and tonal quality as I have heard in a production sedan.I am no audiophile by any means. The dual visor mirrors are lit. The rear view mirror automatically dims when strong headlight beams are detected. The side mirrors are heated when the rear defroster switch is on. Their is auxiliary lighting in the foot wells and there are puddle lights when one opens the doors. There is a lighted trunk. There is a lighted glove box. The headlights can be operated manually or via an "automatic" setting on the stalk. The headlights are operated the same way on the other stalk. Manually or automatically. There are fog lights that are operated via a push button switch on the left side of the dash. Every switch, whether on the dash, door, or steering wheel is lit at night. They operate with a quality feel. Very nice! There are rear, sonar based, back up sensors. There is a sun/moon roof. The vehicle rides on 18 inch rims and has a taut, but not harsh suspension. The engine revs very smoothly and willingly. The CVT, my first, is very smooth. It has been programmed to quickly reach the most economical ratio very quickly in driving from the "D" position. This can and will lug the engine to a slight degree. I don't find this troubling or problematic for me. When I would like to go faster, a small depression of the accelerator is all it takes to start moving out.It is not a race car but can willingly and effortlessly transport my family of four without a problem. I find if I would like to "control" the vehicle more that I can use the manual shift gate on the console or use the paddle shifters on the steering wheel to "shift". The paddles are always "live" so driving in "D", I can down shift/up shift at my discretion. My gas mileage in 70% highway and 30% city driving cycle is averaging 28.3 miles per gallon. I can get 24 mpg in strict city driving.I can get as much as 40.1 mpg on the highway. EPA rates this vehicle 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. I use the required 87 octane gas from Mobil or Shell.
I really love this vehicle! I have had the privilege of owning more expensive, bigger vehicles but this vehicle tops them all. The combination of ride quality, interior amenities, features for the price paid is a raving bargain!I have not had any squeaks, rattles or defects that I have found as of yet.I have just turned 6,750 miles on the odometer. I feel a little "special" when I drive the vehicle. To date I have only seen 4 other Kizashis on the road. I live in the largest city in Illinois. I hope I given some insight as to what a "Kizashi" may be. If you would like to know more or need a clarification, please let me know.

Regards.

How much did it cost out the door minus trade? I see them up here for low 20's for the low end FWD autos, but I consider that too much for a 4cyl FWD sedan regardless of handling prowess. But thankfuuly you didnt get saddled with the poorly sorted, irritating Toyota Camry. BTW I've owned many suzuki, mainly MiniUtes the last being a 2005 Aerio SX. As with any purchase, make sure you have a good service dept. PortCity Suzuki/Nissan up in coastal New Hampshire is highly recommended.

They do look nice, I simply would not buy one due to the lack of a dealer network. They are few and far between which is not very reassuring when purchasing a new vehicle. Other than that, I've seen a few on the road and they look pretty good.

Your quote describes exactly how I felt about the 2012 Ford Focus that I recently rented and drove for 1000 miles.
While it is a compact (unlike the Suzuki) it will be at the top of my shopping list for my next commuter car.

PS: While I know that Suzuki makes very good cars, the lack of dealer network would scare me away too.

The Kizashi is a compact car.

Stickered for $27,400.00. Paid $23,600 plus tax. S models are going for approximately $19k in my area.Dealer 20 minutes away. I don't take my cars of any make or model to the dealer unless I can't help it. Prefer to keep logs and do routine/preventive maintenance myself. Time will tell in how this vehicle holds up. Right now it purrs.

I bought a 2010 Kizashi SE AWD in September. The car was a dealer demo and had a little over 9,000 miles. I like the fact that you "lock out" the AWD when it isn't needed (even though I understand that a small amount of power can still be directed to the rears if needed in the lock out mode). I've never owned a car I enjoy this much. While the CVT took a little getting used to I've grown to really like it...power delivery while a little slow off the line is smooth and the car really moves out once you get it moving (mid-range power is very impressive). What really impresses is the quality of materials and attention to details (drove a 2011 Mazda 3 the other day...although it's a highly-rated car it seemed cheap and a little crude in comparison). Mileage for me has been as high as 35 on the highway...very satisfied with that (seems to average in the high 20's). I've got PU 5W30 in the sump and a new set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires in the garage to be installed to replace the awful Dunlops that came on the car (seem to handle well but are rough riding and very noisy). All in all I can't say enough good things about this car. Fortunately for me there's a dealer 8 miles away (next one would be over 200 miles if this one were gone). Congrats on the new ride! Sounds like you're enjoying it as much as I am.

That seems like a great deal to me. And from what I can tell the material and build quality is very high. Good luck!

That exactly how I'd describe the CVT in my Subaru! It's no tire smoking take-off, but keeps accelerating until you let off. There's no dead zone.

In regards to the Kizashi and Suzukis in general, I've never owned one, but always loved them and heard nothing but good about them from owners.

The only bad thing for me is there's only one dealer nearby, the next is about 30 miles away. It seems like there was more dealer network back when they sold the Samurai.

Oilmaven,
It sounds as though we are having the same experience! I too am impressed by the quality feel of the materials as well as the details. Would you do me a favor? Could you post your thoughts/review/critique of the Continental Extreme Contact DWS's when you can? I just recommended those tires for my brother to be put on his E series Mercedes. He loves them. I look forward to your opinion about them on the Kizashi. I agree the Dunlops are loud. They have to go at first chance.

Regards.

sgt253,
I'll give my review of the Continentals soon...they're being installed tomorrow. As much as I don't look forward to winter I'm anxious to see how they do in the snow (along with the AWD...this is my first vehicle with it). I did a lot of research on the tires and tried to find a tire that would provide some level of performance and comfort with a good snow rating...didn't want to go with dedicated snows as I would have had to buy new all-seasons or summer tires in the spring (I bought a set of Extreme Winter Contacts for my old Accord this year...they're also in the garage but won't go on until the end of the month...hopefully won't need them sooner). The few choices I found with good snow traction seemed wanting in the performance department. The Continentals seem to fit the bill although there are some complaints about soft sidewalls and somewhat compromised handling. I'll be putting some "break-in" miles on them next week and will report back on them.

As promised, I'm doing a follow-up regarding the Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires I installed on the Kizashi (maybe this should go in the Tires & Wheels forum but this is where I said I'd post so shoot me). The tires, after a few hundred miles are great. They are leagues quieter and smoother riding than the Dunlops. Handling (as expected) may be a little softer but I expected that...still a very nice handling tire considering the comfort and quiet. Treadwear is an unknown but reviews say they hold up well...will keep them rotated and hope for the best. I give them two thumbs up and would recommend them. I have an appointment tomorrow which will involve 350 miles or so of driving...and they're predicting from 3 inches to 6 inches of snow. I may get a chance to test the AWD and new tires sooner than I expected.

oilmaven,
Thanks for the review. I have just returned from driving 2100 miles this weekend(Chicago-Portland) on a set of Conti Extreme Contact DWS's. They were ultra quiet on the dry, great in rain and very good in light snow. I was in a 2003 Mercedes-Benz E350. I am putting them on my Kizashi. Good luck on your trip and be safe.

Regards

General / Continental make some of the best tires as of lately . We have Pro Contact Eco Plus for the '08 YARIS . The ride is better , quieter , and wet performance is very good . They were $94 each . As for the gas mileage , maybe a slight gain .
