Working a deal for a new Forester 2.5X. We've been looking at smaller used SUVs and I'm fed up with the insane used prices.

Need something that will haul two kids and a kenneled Labrador in the back. My wife prefers it be AWD/4WD.I prefer a MT. $20K or under.

The Forester is really the only thing we've found that fits all our needs.

We looked at a Mazda5 and if AWD were available we'd probably be buying one. It seemed to be very versatile.

If he puts two kids in the back seat, where is he going to put the lab?

True. I must have missed the two kids part. There is always the roof rack....

We have the forester and it gets 30mPG with the stick. Just be aware the OC cost may be higher than the 2010 SOHC T-belt engine as subaru is pushing using 0w-20 synthetic at 7500 max OCI on a 5 litre sump. I'm not yet totally sold on M1 0w20 in this app due to on again/ off again excessive engine noise. May try the Idemitsu/Subaru oil next. You may wish to check the Jeep Patriot as an option.

I'm a Subaru lover and I like the chain driven over the TB version. I'm disapointed that they are pushing an expensive oil for this daily driver. Ed

Wow...

Went to the dealer this morning to buy the Forester. I was amazed at how the cars were treated at this particular dealer. I walked around a bit as they brought the car I was interested out front. Almost every car had clearly visible scratches or scuff marks. A few were actually parked so close together the front bumper on one was touching the rear bumper on another.

Every car was covered in a fine layer of dust. "My" Forester was no exception. It was filthy. At one point the salesman took his hand and rubbed the dust off the paint so I could get a better idea of the color. Not a good idea on any color, but terrible on a dark charcoal colored car.

I guess I'm pickier than most because he said he'd never had another customer complain about the condition of the paint on their cars. The Forester I wanted only had 6 miles on it,but the paint looked like it was a year old.

Funny, I was contemplating the same thing some weeks back. I started the process by inquiring with my closest Soob dealer via the internet. Whadda bunch of goofs. A 'sales person' responded right away, but when I wanted numbers he claimed he had no idea about those. He was only a "consultant". I could call a sales person for that. I asked that he send our correspondence to one. His response was "He" doesn't really use the computer. Even though I gave them my #, they never even called.

This completely cooled me off on a new Soob. Probably a good thing.

Back in 2001 I used this same mega-chain dealership to purchase a new Nissan Sentra almost entirely online. Only stepped foot in the place to drop off my trade and sign papers.

I hate how they made ALL Subarus look ugly as excrement in the current line up...i liked the 'boxier' previous generation subarus a LOT better...their clown face front is one of the ugliest faces around

Lmao I wouldn't say that, when we were shopping for our cars, we looked at subarus just for giggles, and they were all clean and looked good.

Edit: Also, Congratulations on the new car OP.

... And one of the most freak uugly things ever conceived in auto sheetmetal. Did you get the subaru? That thing has r o o m in it now. Actually the coolest thing is the hood has rare these days gas struts. A pleasure to open. Have fun keeping the oil filter dish grit free - that design was a brain hiccup.

Which dealer was that? The Buffalo-area Chevy dealer I bought from was eager to deal over the phone. Like you did back in 2001, all I stepped foot into the dealer for was for trade and sign my life away.

sciphi, it was West-Herr. I concur with their Chevy store. When I bought my Cobalt in 2007, I was in and out in about an hour. That included the test drive and haggling with my trade-in. Normally their really good. I can't say that for their Toyota or Subaru store based on my dealings with them now.
