I have a 2011 Silverado 5.3 that I have been using PP in since I drained the factory fill. There is no mention of dexos in my manual or oil cap(I bought it in 2010). So I called the warranty center (for the factory warranty) and they told me I dont have to use dexos if it wasnt printed in my manual and to use whatever the manual said (gm 6094 I think?). Dealership confirmed this, and the service manager also said that if the oil exceeds dexos standards, even if it isnt licensed there is no way they could hold that against you in court should your engine have an oil related failure. If I still had to use dexos Im pretty sure I wouldnt want that hassle, but since Im off the hook as far as this dexos "requirement" goes, Im upgrading to Pennzoil Ultra. Hope this helps anyone who might have a 2011 GM with the old requirements in the manual.

I believe the truck line doesn't recommend using dexos1. GM doesn't require dexos1 oil. They recommend it. That's a big difference.

I have a 2011 GMC. It is in my manual. All 2011's require dexos certified oil; unless the oil isn't available. I'm not sure why the OP's manual doesn't state that...maybe it is a fluke. every 2011 GM vehicle manual I have seen not only says to use dexos, but says that it was put in the vehicle at the factory.

My Silverado was built before this whole dexos mess....I was using PP because I thought that I had to use dexos, but it is not stated anywhere in my manual or on my truck (oil cap included), no one told me about it when I pulled out of the dealership when I bought it, and my monthly onstar emails even recommend that I try out the new Dexos one oils. Im aware that dexos is a higher stander than 6094, trust me I have done alot of HW on this dexos stuff, but PU is definately a better oil than PP and im glad i can make the upgrade, or choose any oil i want for that matter.
