Happened to pick up one of these as a rental car at the airport. I feel i am liking it a lot with good handling characteristics; steering wheel feedback (has no pump??). Leather is good with firm support. I like it better than the new Legacy Camry Accord, as i drove all these recently. Engine feels weak with loaded in comparison with the current accord and camry 4 cylinders. What is your input? People are saying the transmission slips; but i cannot feel it.

Had one as a rental, like it a lot. Wouldnt say the engine is weak, but may be less willing to downshift and rev. Some cars are excessively geared in 1st, which makes them jumpy but feel like they have more power...
I own a 2011 Fusion SEL 2.5L and really love it. It handles great and the electric power steering gives good feedback. It's really the most comfortable vehicle we've had since a Lincoln LS we had several years ago.
I think the 4 cyl has plenty of pep, but, of course, doesn't have the getup of a V6.

i am very surprised with the electric power steering too; but who knows how good or bad it could be. As far as i know, BMW 3series have issues and mini cooper have issues with the electric motor and cost arms and legs to repair. It handles really awesome.. It definitely handles better than their major competitors.. FORD! Good job.
I've driven them, and they seem low on power to me, but considering what I DD that is why. My mom really wants one, but finding one with all the options she wants is a nightmare.

i think a SEL is pretty nice and priced well and reasonable.

I just had one as a rental too from a recent trip I was on. Power from the 4 cyl and handling were very nice, seats supportive amd extremely comfortable. Build quality was very high and light years ahead of the Five Hundred/Taurus I am driving as a company car now.

She wants a sport V6 AWD with NAV. The problem is they don't offer NAV currently. Stepping up to the Lincoln which has NAV, you are stuck with wood grain which is an immediate deal killer.

I've bought over a dozen new vehicles since my GI-bill days. My current 2010 Fusion SEL/sport suspensioned 3.0 is the best car I've ever owned in every respect that can be described. The 240HP V6 averages 26mpg in suburban driving & 31mpg on the highway. What's not to like? The $130 bill to fix the 18" wheel curb rash and recent price hikes on Motorcraft 5W20 oil prices.
My mom has a 2010 SE 2.5 w/sport package and I love the way it drives. Very peppy for a 4cylinder.
They really are nice cars. We just turned 32K in our '10 2.5 SE w/ Sport package. It's been a good car, pretty good mpg for the most part. I wouldn't say the trans slips, different feel though. I changed the ATF at 26K, to be on the side of caution.
The power is decent IMO, the "off the line" acceleration doesn't seem real good, but not bad either. Plenty of cruising and passing power.

A co-worker has an '11 Fusion SE, with the 18" sport wheels but with the 2.5L Duratec. Theirs is deep red with black leather interior, and I must say, it's one sharp-looking car. They love it so far.

If you get the MKZ with Sport Appearance Package, there is no interior wood. It's aluminum trim (real -- not painted plastic). I'm quite positive the wood on the other models is also "real".

I'll have to go into the lion's den (sales dept) and have them look it all up for me. She hates the wood trim on her Grand Marquis. Its not that it is fake, its that it is wood grain in general, does not belong in a car according to her, I have to agree.
So far we love our 2011 Fusion SE 2.5L. I think Ford got the gearing and ratios spot-on with this 6-speed automatic, and it has plenty of power. It also got 30 mpg with 4 adults and a jam-packed trunk averaging at or over 75 mph on a 140 mile mostly freeway trip.

Yes, a 6 speed manual is offered on the S and SE models I believe... Possibly only the S.
