Is the Purolator P10241 that fits a Mazda 3 the same as a Motorcraft FL400S? I am looking for a Motorcraft filter if possible, is the 400S the correct one? Thanks

Purolator 10241 would be the equivalent to a FL-910S. Only difference between the 910S and the 400S is the 400S is just a little bit (less than an inch) longer, so you could use the 400S unless your filter is in a really tight space.

I'm running a FL-400S on the Saturn, which specs a 10241.

Use the factory filter and oil for that matter. If you must use an alternate make it an FL910S M/C. Either take my word for it or do some internet research. Excellent article on M/C filters here couple of weeks ago quoting Ford directly.

the fl-400s was replaced in some applications by the fl-910s

its just slightly shorter

and the S refers to silicone anti-drainback valve.

soo... if the fl-910s fits.. and you have decent clearance.. the fl-400s will fit.

some applications like a 2007 focus it will fit but hangs down its the lowest point on the car.....

bad for concrete parking stops etc... which is one of the reasons they came out with the fl-910s.

You may want to stay with the shorter(FL-910S) as the longer(FL-400S) may hit your splash shield and be a bit more difficult to remove/install
