Agreed, on both comments. I saw the Transit Connect at a trade show and found it to be quite an appealing vehicle. The addition of Ford's TDCi engines would make it far more so.

I guess interesting could be one word used to describe it.

Now wait a minute, those are fighting words. I have you know my Honda Element is uglier than that. For heavens sake, it looks like a shoe box.

The Transit has been sold in Europe for many years, in many different size varieties. Over there, I'm sure diesel and manual transmission are the base options for this vehicle, as they are for most vehicles. I wouldn't be surprised if these things never make it to America, though.

Heck I was in Germany last year, and I was on a private coach bus and it was a standard transmission. When was the last time you saw a standard transmission bus in America?

I don't doubt the truck will make it to the USA--the original post had a link clearly saying that it was coming stateside.

What I meant was that I have my doubts about the diesel and the standard transmission coming with it. Not saying it's not possible, but IMO it's unlikely.

Very entertaining footage. You should watch the episode where Jeremy tries (and eventually) succeeds at manhandling the S-type Jag diesel around in under 10.

I suspect the smaller Transit Connect might make it around the ring in under 10, compared with the full-size Transit.

Initial delivery is to be a 2.0 16v-I4 gas engine, with a four-speed automatic. Ford has said that their European diesels will be coming, in a variety of models. They hadn't set a solid schedule the last time I spoke with someone involved with the program, though. Interestingly, the one I was given carte blanche with was equipped exactly as you describe.
